The 2007 Central Jaguars will be looking to reclaim what they feel belongs to them, the 22-4A championship. The district race last year was nip and tuck all year between Central and Dayton and it was the Broncos that came away with the championship after they beat the Jags 21-20 in Beaumont. One thing is for certain about Central, they will have speed to burn once again this year and should challenge Dayton for the district title.

Key Wins Last Year:

Nederland (63-24)

Vidor (38-34)

Barbers Hill (31-28)

Last Year’s Scores:

Dayton 21 Central 20

Offensive Summary

Coach Stowers will need to find a replacement at QB after the graduation of Brandon Williams (Texas A&M). 5 starters return to an offense that averaged 30 points per game in 2006. The biggest returning starter is RB Derrick Hall. In ’06 Hall was a dual threat, rushing for 550 yards and as a receiver had 450 yards. The offensive line will be a talented group led by Zaybrion Barnwell and Parnell Wells.

Other Offensive Impact Players:

Victor Spikes (WR)

Charlie Thomas (RB)

Defensive Summary

The defense brings back 6 starters from a unit that allowed 24 points per game in 2006. Defensively, Central should be solid. DE Brian Davis is a pure talent. He had 55 tackles and 7 sacks last season for the Jags. Also look for DL Edward Fleming will give opposing teams trouble all year. The secondary will be lead by CB Adrian Guillory.

Other Defensive Impact Players:

David Mayfield (LB)

Central has a tough non-district schedule to get them ready for the grueling 22-4A race. They open with 5A Baytown Lee at Zaharias Stadium on August 31. They then take a trip down the road to Lamar to face cross-town rival West Brook. The non-district schedule concludes with a trip to Houston to face Sterling. Central opens district play on September 28 @ LC-M. Many feel the 22-4A title could be up for grabs on October 26 when Central travels to Dayton to face the defending champion Broncos. Here is the complete 2007 schedule for the Central Jaguars……

Aug. 31 Baytown Lee

Sept. 7 West Brook at Lamar

Sept. 14 @ Houston Sterling

And so it begins.  We need a big wins in non-district to give us confidence going into district.  We should have something to prove this year.  That we should have been the district champs.

Dave Campbell has Baytown Lee and Westbrook as the 1 and 2 team respectivily in their district.  Everybody expects Lee to be a 5A powerhouse this year.  Campbell also say that the Marshal/Michels backfield at Brook is the best combo in the state.  So if my Jags can go [glow=red,2,300]1-1[/glow] in those two game it will be an accomplishment.  If we go [glow=red,2,300]2-0[/glow] watchout 22-4A. ;D

I've seen halls brother play some RB, WR, LB, and safety in a Jaguar Jersy.  He is bigger than Hall and I believe he could be a man on the defensive side of the ball.  But he is so gifted I can't see them trying to play him some on offense.
