BHFAN Posted November 24, 2019 Report Posted November 24, 2019 Time to get this one started! Game is at NRG this Friday at noon. I’ll find some stats to throw on the thread, but I think this will be a great game. Manvel is the favorite, but BH will challenge the Mavs and if they sputter BH could just as well win this one. IMO BH will have to score at least 40 to beat Manvel. Question is can we get enough key stops against the Manvel O to win? BS Wildcats 1 Quote

BHFAN Posted November 24, 2019 Author Report Posted November 24, 2019 Ok my thoughts on the game. Manvel will be the favorite going in and beat BH last year 62-42. The game last year BH came in limping with a back up QB and RB stepping in to try and compete with the mighty Mavs. Even with that BH hung with Manvel till midway 3rd quarter when the wheels fell off and Manvel broke open a 31-24 game to rattle off 31 more points. This years Eagles are much improved and considerably more healthy with maybe our starting RB out. Good news for BH is Westerberg has been rotating 3 backs all year, so we are not dead in that department. Here's the good news for BH - The Manvel Defensive can be scored on, so I don't think we will be hurt on the offensive side of the ball. Manvel doesn't have a dual threat QB this year, so you don't have to be concerned with him taking off for 6. Playing at NRG again, so no weather concerns . Here's the bad news for BH - Manvel has 2 big fast RB's to deal with. Manvel has speed for days among their receivers. Manvel's QB although not real mobile has a good arm and is an accurate passer. The trenches is where this game is going to be won IMO and BH has been winning that battle all year, however Manvel looks to have some beef on both sides of the line. BH will be tested in the trenches and as the game wears on one will get the upper hand late in the game. I think BH will have to score as said above at least 40 points to win this game and my homer pick is ……… BH 48 Manvel 42 BH and Manvel have 3 like opponents this year. All this tells me is that these teams are pretty close and I expect a close game. Crosby - BH won 28-7 & Manvel won 39-27 ( Note: Manvel game was the 1st one of the year at home and 8th game of the year for BH after Crosby got their QB cleared) Nederland - BH won 40-14 and Manvel won 49-14 ( Note: BH beat Ned at Home and Manvel beat Nederland at Manvel) Houston Sterling - BH won 42-0 & Manvel won 44-26 ( Note: Sterling's #1 RB was out for the BH game and Manvel was home) Rez 1 Quote
A BUC 77 Posted November 24, 2019 Report Posted November 24, 2019 If Barbers Hill plays their game (balanced) they can win. You have to play all 4 quarters. Marvel will have to make a few mistakes though. Go Eagles! Quote
Guest Aledoalumni Posted November 25, 2019 Report Posted November 25, 2019 I did a mock on the 5A site and actually had Barbers Hill making it to state. I figured since Manvel had a little trouble with Sterling and Willowridge during the season that BH could beat them come playoff time. Well, that game is here. I watched Manvel/Lamar and BH/Whitehouse on Texan live and I need to change my opinion. I do think teams will be able to score on Manvel but stopping their offense will be tough. Like it was previously mentioned they have some running backs that can go. I really thought BH was going to handle WH more convincingly but that wasnt the case. For a lot of the game it seemed like it was back and forth. The BH defense kinda let me down. In order to beat Manvel you need to be solid on defense. Just not sure BH will be able to outscore them. BH is going to give up size but I am pulling for yall. Quote

Westerberg seems to do that each game though. It looks like we play a more bend but don’t break defense to start the game then adjust slowly to a more aggressive D. Opposite on offense as it seems we try to jump on teams early then glide, but couldn’t do that last game. BH D will have to play lights out Friday to advance. One game at a time Eagles! Quote
A BUC 77 Posted November 25, 2019 Report Posted November 25, 2019 Just don't bend to much in the first half. Your coach knows what he's up against. Containing will be the key on defense. Quote
Eazy Posted November 25, 2019 Report Posted November 25, 2019 I’m taking the underdogs. BH vs Huntsville next week. Quote

We are at the point in the season where a slow start on one side of the ball can send you home. Hope yall are locked in from the jump. Quote

For BH we are still learning, but if the team plays their heart out, stays focused and follows their coaching BH will be a tough out. Quote

And I'd say there are several teams left that can challenge and/or beat us on the right day. Quote
BHFAN Posted November 26, 2019 Author Report Posted November 26, 2019 Hey Aledo your busted 😂 I was looking through other sites and read that you pick Manvel by + 21. Just messing with you though because any pick for this game will be hard to argue. To me it looks like a toss up, but i’m Just a tiny bit biased. 👍 Quote

Rez Posted November 26, 2019 Report Posted November 26, 2019 Barbers Hill’s biggest weakness is that defense. Otherwise they are about as complete as a team would want to be. Quote

Yes PNG scores 35 on them but other than Magnolia that was as much as they gave up this season according to MaxPreps. Whitehouse put up 24, but looking at box score one TD was on Kick off return. Other than that they allowed 17. i think they are a well rounded team. Of course, this is my opinion based on stats I have seen. Quote

BH Defense has been good this year and yes whitehouse did score on special teams. Some games you will also see that our 2 nd team Defense was scored on during junk time. PNG lite us up that night and is one of those teams where they have some sort of mental block for that team. Kind of like Vidor and Crosby. BH has an opportunity Friday to show the Region where they are. Goodluck Eagles Quote

A BUC 77 Posted November 26, 2019 Report Posted November 26, 2019 There's not too many teams in SE Texas that don't have a mental roadblock with Manvel. Quote
