Lady ’Stangs still need head coach

The search for a West Orange-Stark Lady Mustangs basketball coach continues after a Port Arthur Memorial assistant has taken her name out of the pool.

Mustangs’ Athletics Director Dan Hooks reported Wednesday WO-S is back in search mode for a girls basketball coach and that the application process is back in full motion.

WO-S is in the hunt for a new coach after Callie Orebo resigned from the post. Orebo is still in the district as a teacher.

The Lady Mustangs reached the regional finals three out of the last four seasons including this past year when they lost to Crockett in the regional semifinals. Crockett would go on to win the state tournament.

WO-S has produced two Division I standouts over the past several seasons in Brittney James and Brittney Scott. James is now a sophomore at the University of Houston while Scott is soon to be a freshman at the University of Houston.

Orebo was one of three District 21-3A girls basketball coaches to leave after last year. Orangefield lost Sondra Ancelot who went on to be an assistant at Lamar University while Jackie Scales of Bridge City went to Fort Bend Elkins in Missouri City.

Orangefield has replaced Ancelot with Chris Jost who moved over from Comanche High School.
