Dynamo play FC Toronto to scoreless draw

Toronto FC (5-7-4) went a man down late in the fist half after Maurice Edu drew a red card for an elbow to Dynamo midfielder Brian Mullan.

As a consolation prize for the Dynamo (10-5-3), the tie extended their unbeaten streak to 10 games and their shutout streak to seven, with the latter setting a league record for consecutive minutes without allowing a goal at 695 minutes and counting.

The previous record was 681 minutes posted by the Kansas City Wizards in 2000.

After a grueling 10-day stretch that had the team playing five matches including a U.S. Open Cup game, the Dynamo will enter the MLS All-Star Break as the best team in the Western Conference and one of the top sides in the league.

Despite the one-man advantage, the Dynamo never were able to put one past Toronto keeper Srdjan Djekanovic.

It wasn't for lack of trying.

The Dynamo outshot Toronto 16-4 with most tries coming in the second half and with the visitors bunkered down in their 20 first yards.

Trapped in their territory, Toronto attempted only one shot in the second half.

Forward Nate Jaqua, who replaced Joseph Ngwenya in the second half, nearly put the Dynamo ahead twice with a 10-yarder in the 62nd minute and a header in the 83rd that went wide.

Ricardo Clark also had a clear shot from the right deflected by the Toronto defense in the 60th minute.

Brian Ching had the best chance of the first half go off the far post in the 32nd minute.
