They finished last season a dreadful 1-8 and were shut out 7 times. They now have a new head coach and 20, that’s right, 20 returning starters that will try to fight their way out of the 24-1A cellar. To say that the Cardinals struggled on offense last year would be an understatement. Sure they hung 47 points on Chester but 7 of their 8 losses were shutouts. They averaged just 8 points per game last season. QB Tiner George returns after he passed for 400 yards and rushed for 450 yards. RB T.J. Kahla is also back after rushing for 490 yards and 3 touchdowns.Other Offensive Impact Players:Steven Landrum (WR)Defensive SummaryThe Cardinals also welcome 10 starters back on defense. Last season High Island gave up 41 points per game and will try to improve that number this season. The defensive leader will be LB Trey Hall. The defensive line will be led by DL Robert Walker and DE Donald Hooks. Look for High Island to be much improved on defense.High Island will open the 2007 season at home against Galveston O’Connell. They then have 2 straight road games at Baytown Christian and 2A Deweyville. The Cardinals will open 24-1A play on October 12 at home against Hull-Daisetta. The Cards will have November 2 circled on their schedule as they will host rival Sabine Pass.
