However, the Eagles appear to be set up nicely to make a run at the playoffs in 2007. A total of 17 starters return for Woodville, more than any other team in the district, and that experience should pay big dividends this season.Key Wins Last Year:Splendora (20-7)Shepherd (40-14)Last Year’s Scores:Coldspring 29 Woodville 20Woodville 20 Splendora 7Woodville 24 Warren 18Woodville 40 Shepherd 14Tarkington 40 Woodville 18Woodville 21 Shelbyville 6San Augustine 18 Woodville 13Corrigan-Camden 28 Woodville 14Newton 49 Woodville 34Hemphill 18 Woodville 0Offensive SummaryWoodville brings back 9 starters from last year’s offensive unit that averaged 20 points per game. QB Steven Williams is back after having a respectable season last year. In 2006 Williams passed for 663 yards and 9 touchdowns. RB Paul Price is the top returning rusher for Woodville as he had 442 yards and 5 touchdowns a year ago. All-District OG Landra Lee returns for his senior season and will be the leader on the line. Other Offensive Impact Players:Adrian Williams (WR)Defensive Summary8 starters return for the Eagle defense in 2007. Last season Woodville’s defense gave up 23 points per game. Lots of experience is back on defense and that includes DB Adam Rigsby. Look for Woodville to have a tough defensive line led by DE Cory Knight. The Eagles will also have a very good set of linebackers led by Eric Davis. Taylor Thompson is also expected to have a good 2007 season at the LB position for the Eagles.Woodville opens the 2007 season with a tough Week 0 matchup with Coldspring. The following week they travel to defending 22-3A champion Splendora. The Eagles have their home opener on September 21 against Shepherd. The district 23-2A opener is on October 12 at home against Shelbyville. Look for the November 2 matchup with Newton to be a great one.
