BEAUMONT, TX (July 25, 2007) – The Texas Wildcatters announced Friday that they have signed defenseman Andrew Andricopoulos to a contract for the 2007-08 season.

At 20 years old, the Beverly, MA native has spent the last four seasons with the Quebec Remparts of the QMJHL. He registered 48 points in 68 games in 2006-07 (10-38-48 ) and a combined 99 playoff and regular season points since 2005 (22-77-99).

“Andrew is a very dynamic young hockey player, an outstanding skater and an offensive power,†Wildcatters Head Coach and VP of Hockey Operations Malcolm Cameron said. “We feel very fortunate to have him this season, as he chose to play with us over returning to juniors for another year.â€

Andricopoulos knows that playing defense is about more than just the scoring, as he commented from his home in Massachusetts Friday, “My time in Quebec really helped me learn to play defense. I feel that I have become a complete player and will be able to help the team as much as possible. Offense is a big part of my game, but certainly not all of it.â€

The maturation of the young player with the seemingly inevitable moniker of “Andy†is not lost on Cameron. “He has developed into an outstanding player during his years in Quebec. We hope to continue to make him a better player and prepare him for a career at a very high level.â€

In the meantime, Andricopoulos is looking forward to the climate change. “I’ve been in Quebec for four years; I’m looking forward to some nice weather and a little golf. Combine that with the type of team coach is assembling and I couldn’t be more excited to be on my way to Texas.â€
