05Panther52
With all the talk of the extra practices that the state final teams get that help to make them better. The question I have is why are the rules different for each classification. What I mean is look at spring football, 6A and 5A can got full pads during spring football but the lower classes can't. Why the difference?( Please correct me if I'm wrong). I think it should be the same across the board.
AHUDDLESTON
One problem would be hurting the Spring sports at smaller schools. You could start Spring ball after all sports are through except playoff participants.
oldman
Small schools also don't have the number of coaches as the larger classifications. Many of the Larger classifications have coordinators that don't coach a 2nd sport. They can organize practices in the spring and utilize the coaches that don't have spring sports to coach. Smaller classifications don't have that luxury.

SmashMouth
No one has given you a good answer yet. I don’t know the answer. Regardless of other sports or the number of coaches at smaller schools, etc., all of the schools could be given the choice, one would think. AHUDDLESTON
Practice times dont really even out. You get 15 practices in the spring versus one week if you dont do spring ball.
BMTSoulja1
Beats me. But I'm sure UIL has it in place for a reason. Maybe with the lower classifications, they feel that the strain of full contact workouts is too much for kids that more than likely will be going both ways all season long... That and in 4A and below, your starting quarterback is also probably your starting pitcher, shortstop or center fielder on your school's baseball team. gogo1734
All teams should have the same opportunity regardless of classification. I just can't see a good reason behind the rule.

A lot can happen between spring and August.. it seems to me that the extra week in August would be better because you have a truer picture of what you'll be working with. Just my opinion.
