oldschool2 Posted December 23, 2019 Report Posted December 23, 2019 I’ll go ahead and get the argument kicked off.. I went over the weekend for the first time. There is absolutely zero question that ALL UIL state football championship games need to be at Cowboys stadium. Wow.. what a venue. NRG or the Alamodome shouldn’t even be suggested. I have no doubt that every kid in the state would rather play there regardless of travel. Quote

But keep AT&T the Championship Venue. Alpha Wolf, BlackShirts5 and Tiger33 2 1 Quote

WOSgrad Posted December 23, 2019 Report Posted December 23, 2019 I have always been in favor of a rotation amongst the 3. I really doubt that those who have not played a state championship game in Jerry World have their memories sullied by the fact that it wasn't played there. But realism sets in and it is really a fait accompli that the championships will stay at AT&T. Factors include that Fox Sports Southwest is a Metroplex based broadcaster and DCTF who is heavily involved in the broadcast, is a Metroplex based publisher. I am sure that these have played factors in the UIL keeping the games in Arlington. But perhaps the biggest of the factors is that the Cowboys and Jerry Jones have been receptive to high school football, making both AT&T and the Star in Frisco readily available for both regular season and playoff high school games, while Houston has not. I recall a time not so very long ago that the Texans refused to host high school playoff games at NRG for.........SIGH...... the fear that these immature high schoolers would tear up their beloved brown patch field and effect that oh so quality football (yes, that is sarcasm) that they play. Just like all of us, the UIL will go where it is perceived that they are wanted and like it or not, the perception is AT&T. NetCat, Alpha Wolf and BMTSoulja1 2 1 Quote

I’m sure they learned from their mistakes and will do better next time with all the critics. Can’t just go based on something that happened one time without giving them another shot... That’s how places get better with suggestions and learned from past mistakes. Alpha Wolf 1 Quote

Uncle Pig Posted December 23, 2019 Report Posted December 23, 2019 Also heard one of the issues with NRG was having to deal with City of Houston, Harris County, and some other entity. Playing at AT&T you deal with 1 man; and while most agree he’s an egotistical maniac, I think we can all agree he’s very high school football friendly. Quote

The one other entity is the Houston Sports Authority, probably the worst of the 3. They don't have time for the UIL, they are too busy courting another Super Bowl. While in the Metroplex you have to deal with one egotistical man, in Houston you have to deal with 3 egotistical bureaucratic organizations! swampdude 1 Quote

It’s not just about the Houston schools. Your idea would have a West Texas/Panhandle team playing a Texarkana team in Houston. Quote

Ive been twice 2016 and 2017...Its a great place to watch a high school football game but my fan experience there was a mixed bag...1st its expensive more so than NRG but i get that part because its a nicer stadium. 2nd I learned this one in 2016 you better be real friendly with the folks sitting near you because if you dont you will have your stuff and your seat stolen when you get up to do anything else and that wasnt just a one time occurrence. Yoe_09 Posted December 23, 2019 Report Posted December 23, 2019 Watched Cameron in 2012, 2013 and 2014 at AT&T and then 2014 at NRG. Also have been back to AT&T the past two years. Personally, I don't care if the games stay or rotate, but I live in Cameron where we're 2.5 hours away from either Arlington, Houston or San Antonio. The only issue I have with AT&T is the seating. They try to pack everyone in like sardines before they open another section. Yes, this means for some having to sit in the end zone. Quote

CHITOWN85 Posted December 25, 2019 Report Posted December 25, 2019 I like the ideal of rotation just to see a different venue, and town experience after games are done. I actually think NRG is easier to get in and has better site lines. Quote

swampdude Posted December 26, 2019 Report Posted December 26, 2019 Having attended multiple Championships at AT&T as well as the one at NRG, I too acknowledge that AT&T is very accommodating to the teams as well as fans for the UIL games. I had hopes that NRG would have been a better host so the games could return occasionally. The Houston area crowds were many thousands lower than those at AT&T. If you have never attended the UIL Championships, you owe it to yourself to make the trek to Arlington and experience a first-class presentation of our beloved Texas High School Football. And the fact that so many graduates have moved to Houston area. I see them at playoff games saying yea it's only 15 mins from the house. Quote
