Ask anybody in Southeast Texas who had them left for dead after week 5 and a 0-2 district start last year. The ‘Dogs went on to win 4 of their last 5 games including two huge wins over PN-G and LC-M to get the 3rd playoff spot out of 22-4A. Even with just 6 returning starters in 2007 expect them to be in the playoff hunt come November after they proved last year they should never be counted out. A huge loss on offense was RB Micah Mosley (North Texas) who accounted for most of Nederland’s 30 points per game in ‘06. Chris Gutierrez looks to be the starter at RB in 2007 after rushing for 565 yards and 7 touchdowns as Mosley’s backup last year. University of Texas commit 2-way player Dravannti Johnson is also back at his TE spot. The Nederland offensive line should be solid lead by Stefan Huber and Michael Benefield.Other Offensive Impact Players:Ryan Sampere (QB)Adam Broussard (WR)Defensive SummaryCoach Neumann welcomes back 4 defensive starters off a unit that allowed 28 points per game in 2006. The Nederland secondary will be lead by Reagan Stanley. Stanley hauled in 4 interceptions in ’06 and looks to build on those numbers for 2007. We mentioned Dravannti Johnson earlier on offense but his biggest contribution will likely come on the defensive side of the ball. Last year he had 88 tackles and 7 sacks. Also look for LB Jordan Landry to have a big year.Other Defensive Impact Players:Grant Lovelady (LB)Wareall Grogan (LB)Nederland opens up the 2007 season with a headliner game against Brenham as a part of the double-header at Reliant Stadium along with PN-G/La Marque. The ‘Dogs then travel to Forest Brook before having the home opener against Waller. Nederland will have the 22-4A opener circled on the schedule because that’s when Vidor comes to town. The Pirates shocked Nederland last year at Pirate Stadium. We at SETXsports are looking forward to the annual Mid-County Madness game on October 12 when PN-G visits Nederland. Guest 87CRU79 Posted July 30, 2007 Report Posted July 30, 2007 OK,Chris Gutierrez doesn't even play offense anymore. He was moved to defense as a LB, and will not see much of the offensive side of the ball.DJ may play some slot receiver, but only when Ned needs a big target in the middle of the field.
