I havent been to a Silsbee vs HJ game since 2010 when the game was in Silsbee and it was a freshman Bosha and junior Prudhomme vs Seniors Stallworth and Prentice Lane for Silsbee. I remember HJ got up by like 20 and Silsbee came back and won by 10 or so. Silsbee also had the Barrett twins who could shoot as well.

It's interesting that this 4A game gets more attention than the local 5A and 6A games?  And we've got the No. 9 and 10 ranked 6A schools and the No. 5 ranked 5A school but threads for those teams just don't draw the same interest as this little 4A thing does.

What are the reasons for that?  Obviously a long standing consistent rivalry is one reason and probably the main one.  Add to that the fact these teams regularly advance pretty far in the playoffs.

Is there anything else?  Is it possible that for some reason 4A level basketball is the sweet spot for meaningful play at the high school level?  Big enough but not too big?  Even Lumberton games get more attention here.

Is all this purely a feature of the nature of this forum or is it more universal than that?

Just wondering.

Rivalry and Silsbee basketball.  Silsbee basketball may only be surpassed by WOS football in terms of thread posts.

Yeah plus I think it's more Silsbee and HJ folks on this thread as well. Silsbee has won 2 recent titles and 3 recent trips to state. HJ has been to state twice over the past 10-12 years and one team advances to the Regionals almost every year. Neither is the best in SETX but I think both have the die hard fan base and bring the biggest basketball crowds. Silsbee the last 4 years has had the best team in setx which has made this rivalry lopsided.

Couple of things...  first of all, #9 6a team plays an unranked team tonight .  Not exactly a big profile game. Actually, this is expected to be a blowout. 2nd, there is no thread up for a United vs. LaPorte game (tonight) or the big profile #9 vs #10 6a TUESDAY matchup, so there will be minimum traffic on a non existing thread... 🙄🙄

Soulja_ Maybe  there is high interest due to the potential of a zero dunk count thereby leaving the final outcome in doubt.

    • I don’t benefit from it, that’s not my area.  But the average cost to imprison someone is around $15k per year (on average in the US) and capital cases cost somewhere between $1.5-$3M with over half being overturned or reduced to life in prison anyway.  These numbers may be inflated since the last report I read but I’m sure it would be on both sides and higher on the DP side if anything. So what’s the point?  We feel better because we got to return the favor on someone (hopefully) who committed a heinous crime?  And I don’t know I can say we have “complicated” it. Which appeal should we cut out?  Our justice system has a pecking order and we have higher courts for a reason. When we are about to impose the ultimate judgment, should we cut steps that other cases have to save a buck?  Or do we not pay for an indigent person’s experts at the trial court level because it’s too expensive? Or do we just lock them up and throw away the key (unless we later find out they weren’t actually guilty, in which case we have a key and a life we haven’t unjustly ended) and save a ton of money?  Seems to me to be an easy and obvious solution but I’m more of a pragmatist.

    • @CIS_org National Security Senior Fellow @BensmanTodd tells Steve Bannon how the U.S. State Department and USAID have been sending American taxpayer funds to religious nonprofits to facilitate mass immigration to our southern border. Bensman says 248 nonprofits are participating in the United Nations’ 2024 agenda to distribute $1.6 billion in cash, transportation, food, and shelter to U.S.-bound immigrants across Mexico and Latin America.
