well I went wade fishing out at rollover (on the bay side) on saturday. Outgoing tide somewhat salty water, a little off color, and the reds and black drum were stacked on the oyster reef. They were tialing in about 6 inches of water. I was like a kid in a candy store being the only person on the reef. I tried a topwater but they didn't go for it so i switched to a mansfield mauler with a short 5 inch leader and a gulp crab and the fight was on.  i counted at any given time 15-20 tails.  I ended the day with 3 released bulls and 2 released 30#  black drum and a 22" for eats. I headed in. I got tired of fighting the mud and the fish in that oyster shell and i fryed my phone when i fell in the drink.

Dang just my luck... I went there about 3 Sat and tried fishing in the channel. Caught a few hardhead and gaphs... Wish i would have known about where to fish i would have luv'd to get my boy and nephew on that action. First time to fish on coast and learned alot.. We did pretty good earlier in the week on Gulf side off of Bolivar though. Speck, Mackeral, sharks, and saw a few big bulls brought in.. Wish we could to go back before ball season.

well next time you go, if it's an outgoing tide....walk out on the bay side, galveston side of the channel (walk in right by the bait house)  all of the flat back to the left is a live oyster reef.  Most of it will be about shin deep.  when you get into the oysters you will know iff the fish are feeding. look for tails sticking out of the water and schools of bait acting erratticly.

If the water is clear try a topwater (superspook, or top dog)  It will help keep you out of the oyster.  If that doesn't work try gold spoons or the best back up  a cork rigged with a short leader (5" of 30lb test) and no weight with a kahle hook and gulp bait (crab works best, shrimp will work).

You will be sight casting to the fish so don't waste time with water your not sure about, just move throgh the reef until spot them and then try not to spook em while you fish.

It can a little mucky in places but overall it isn't to bad, just make sure you got good shoes.

Thanks CC2,

Would luv to go try that. Brother in law got a report from yesterday that our buddy tore up the specs on gulf side (Not sure where)Thurs morning and then released 5 sharks over 50" yesterday afterrnoon. He tried to get me to go back down but i had already promised the wife that i would pull the trailer to Rayburn this morning..When i left the park son already had 2 bass wadeing with topwaters. Waitng on friends boat for some Crappie.  Hard to leave but they promised hot grease when i get back after work.

Good Luck,

The only time I fish the bay side is in the fall after a cpl of cold fronts and ONLY on week days. This time of yr on a outgoing tide I would be on the Gulf side and my preferance is the Galv side. Thro into the cut and let current bring around to the 'eddy' for some nice trout. This is NOT a place to take children as its very dangerous with the current.

I dont fish in the cut, I also wade but I have caught more on the other side> Beaumont side in Bay and Galv side in the gulf. Havnt fish in the cut in several yrs and was with lites.
