Wow what a fight by my Raiders!!!! So what y’all wanna say about our #24? He had 39 tonight!!!!

He had a great game tonight. He was unconscious in the first quarter. He could of used a breather late in the first or early in the second. Him and #20 kept the Raiders within striking distance . I’ve always said he was a good ball player but not the 2nd best in the district.

Just goes to prove that, in this district, on any given night, most of the teams are capable of beating all of the teams within the district.

This district has been fun to watch so far

It definitely seems like a very competitive district, close games all the time. It should be fun to join in next year, although Vidor may not have much fun against Silsbee or HJ.

Welp my prediction was off a lil bit. 😂😂😂😂😂

Silsbee got it up to a 10 point lead in the 4th.  At that point it could have gone either way, a close win or a comfortable win.  When it reached that point the issue was no longer really in doubt.  It was a 50/50 shot that it could have been a 20 point win depending on the bounce of the ball.

I was wrong too.  But why?  How good is Lumberton after all?  They are 2 - 4 in district.  HJ handled Lumberton without too much trouble, a 22 point win.  LCM and WOS beat them.  And their two wins against Bridge City and HF were close affairs.  Silsbee has beaten all those teams.  Our predicts were perfectly reasonable.

There are only two possibilities.

1. This team was playing a good bit over their heads tonight.

2. This is an under achieving team.

Based on what I saw on the court tonight I can't help thinking it's No. 2.  I think nobody in district has seen the real Lumberton team until tonight.  This is a good team.  A really good team, better than anybody except Hardin Jefferson and really they should challenge them in the next meeting.  They can and should win out against BC, HJ, LCM and WOS.  I think they should place third in district losing again only to HJ and to Silsbee.  In my opinion Brock Mcclure is clearly one of the best players in the district, maybe third behind Bush and Wirth.  And the supporting cast is competent.  And by the way, the Raiders showed no signs of wearing out.  They had legs the whole game despite the fact that Silsbee pushed them pretty hard.

Or maybe I'm wrong.  Maybe Silsbee is the only team they really really care about challenging and they really were playing over their heads.

I certainly enjoyed watching him.  Isn't he a junior?  He's certainly one of the best in the district and a contender for MVP behind Bush and Wirth.

I may be nuts but I have pretty high expectations for this Raider team.  But they need every bit of the intensity they showed tonight in the remaining district games.

Silsbee may not have been totally on cue but they were playing with all the intensity they have.

The officiating was what it was.  Folks see what they want to see.  I don't think it affected the outcome.

Lumberton has their moral victory.  I'm glad, I like those guys.

Now what about Hardin Jefferson?

They were tonight.  My impression was that Mitchell got just about everything you can get out of his team.  He doesn't have a deep bench but the substitutions were timely and appropriate.  Timeouts the same.

I do have a gripe though.  Not so much about him but about the officials.  They should have kept him off the court and they didn't.  He would be a foot or two on the court when the action was right in front of him.  To wander out when the play is at the other end of the gym is one thing.  A couple of times he was dodging the play.  It was helping the Raiders and hurting the Tigers and the refs shouldn't have allowed it.  But again it's not his problem, you're nuts not to push a thing as far as it will go.

Maybe he was trying to show them how to set a pick. Lol

This was the 5th time I have seen Lumberton play this season. This was the best game that I have personally seen them play this year. Raiders played with a lot of effort, heart and desire. They also played very smart and were patient when they needed to be. Also, they utilized their skill set to the max. That's good coaching. #24 had his best game. 33 points and 16 boards, 10/12 FT. He put his team on his back tonight. IMO, clearly one of the best players in the district. Coach Mitchell is doing an excellent job and the Lumberton basketball program is showing great strides.

Now, with that said, let's not forget Silsbee's side of this. I knew coming into this season that there would be a pretty significant drop off from what we have viewed over the last several years in regards to Tiger basketball. Silsbee is still a very good basketball team. A regional tournament type team. They have one of the best players in the state in Bush. Along with Martin, Cartwright and company, the Tigers still "run" this district. 6-0 thru the first half of district play. Nuff said.

The combination of Silsbee coming back a bit to the rest of the field and the other teams getting better has created a very competitive district. You still might see a handful of blowouts but nothing like it was the last 4-5 years. The fact that Lumberton at home, playing their best game yet, was still 7 points shy of beating Silsbee. That says a lot about the Silsbee basketball program. Silsbee is still Silsbee. The best team in the district.

Silsbee is still pretty good!!! I think they will make a run to the regional tourney. Lumberton had a good game plan and did a pretty good job at trying to slow the pace down little bit on possessions. One thing I do know is Lumberton always plays hard that’s never a question, that program has made tons of strides and they are actually a fun team to watch....Coach Mitchell keep doing what you do you have a built a competitive program over there and keep working hard!!

Not sure about all the team meetings and parents involvement etc. , I tend to think all that stuff is blown way out of proportion. The game is coached on the sideline and played on the court. The difference in this one was hustle and inside play. McClure dominated the game on the boards and in the paint. The Raiders were 3/24 from behind the arc . If they shoot it respectable they win this game. I don’t know what the 2nd half of the district schedule looks like yet as far as home and away games but I think the Raiders are 2-4 and tied for the 4th playoff spot with WOS. Coach Mitchell does a great job, especially with defenses and time management, he’s never been the problem with the Raiders.

I'm a little surprised at how well Silsbee is doing.  I thought most Silsbee fans underestimated how much losing McCain, Adams, and Tyler would affect them, but I underestimated how great Braelon Bush really is.  Chris Martin, too.  Also, surprised that Lumberton played it this tight, but there are no moral victories.  On to the second half.  How does it play out?  Silsbee-HJ round 2?  Who finishes 3rd and 4th?  I love high school basketball.

I don't see Silsbee having another game like this ... I see Silsbee winning the second half of district with 10 - 15+ games.

Silsbee didn’t play bad basketball last night. They didn’t shoot the “3” very well but the Raiders were really off from behind the arc. Both clubs were unconscious from the FT line shooting over 80%. After the 1st quarter The Tigers adjusted nicely to doubles on Bush and Martin stepped up and took over . Not sure about the “ I don’t see Silsbee having another game like this “, they didn’t play bad last night and won by 7.

What I'm just saying I" personally see Silsbee turning it up in this second half of district.. And I" still see them beating HJ by 10+ in HJ. ... I guess will just haft to sit back and see what happens.

Lumberton will give someone hell in the playoffs. Great win Tigers. Let's get thru the 2nd part of district and ready for a very long playoff run. The region is good this year. La Marque, Huffman, Jasper, HJ, Yates, Waxahachie Life, and Silsbee will be playing for state but we all know Yates is the favorite.
