They went 10-0 during the regular season and captured their first district championship in 4A. They went on to lose to Beaumont Central 31-28 in the Bi-District round of the playoffs to finish the year 10-1. The Eagles only return 5 total starters for 2007 and that could prove to make it very tough to claim their 2nd straight 21-4A district title.Key Wins Last Year:Crosby (10-0)Galena Park (28-22)Last Year’s Scores:Barbers Hill 23 Wharton 6Barbers Hill 26 Jasper 7Barbers Hill 24 Bellville 13Barbers Hill 35 Forest Brook 13Barbers Hill 42 New Caney 14Barbers Hill 49 Houston Smiley 14Barbers Hill 45 Huffman 13Barbers Hill 27 C.E. Only 2 starters are back from the 2006 team. Last year the Eagle offense put up 30 points per game. Tony Carmona will take over the QB duties this year and may also see some time at DB. The Barbers Hill offensive line should be very good with Matt Peterson, Jake Ponders and Chad Taylor leading the way. Also look for Micah Jones to have a big year on the offensive line as well. Other Offensive Impact Players:Andrew Little (RB)Defensive SummaryLike the offense, many spots are open on the defensive side of the ball as well. Just 3 starters return on that side but the main defensive star is back. All-District LB Joe Sexton returns after having an outstanding 2006 season for the Eagles. Last year Sexton had 170 tackles along with 3 interceptions and 1 touchdown. He will probably see some time on offense as well after having 117 yards rushing with 2 touchdowns last season. Nick Mercantel is also expected to perform well from his LB position. The Eagle secondary will be led by DB Dustin Losier and DB Derek Ely. Last year the defense gave up just 13 points per game and they look like they should be able to perform well in 2007.Other Defensive Impact Players:Chris Bradshaw (DB)Justin Lindley (DE)Barbers Hill opens their 2007 season with a Saturday game against Wharton at Pearland. The Eagles have their home opener on September 7 when they host the Jasper Bulldogs. They will close non-district play at Bellville. Barbers Hill will open 21-4A play on September 28 at Forest Brook. The rivalry game with Huffman takes place on October 26 at Huffman.
