Coach Claude Tarver left after last season’s 6-4 finish and the ‘Cards brought in former West Brook assistant Chris Stump. Bridge City also lost one of the best overall athletes to ever come through cardinal country in Johnny Dishon. Many feel that the Cardinals will struggle this season because of the few number of returners and the new offense coach Stump will be putting in.Key Wins Last Year:Hardin-Jefferson (21-20)Orangefield (28-18)Last Year’s Scores:Bridge City 24 Liberty 20Lumberton 28 Bridge City 24Bridge City 16 Kelly 7Bridge City 21 Hardin-Jefferson 20Silsbee 28 Bridge City 10Bridge City 22 Jasper 14Bridge City 28 Orangefield 18Kirbyville 27 Bridge City 12Bridge City 27 Hamshire-Fannett 7WO-S 42 Bridge City 6Offensive SummaryThe Cardinals return just 2 starters on offense for 2007. Last year Bridge City averaged 19 points per game. Coach Stump brings in the spread offense and will be looking to light up the scoreboard this year. Junior Dustin Breaux will take over the QB duties after the departure of Dishon and will face the pressure of having big shoes to fill as well as learning a new offensive system. Patrick Carlton is back for his senior season and will be a leader on the offensive line. Also look for Troy Luce and Luke Rhodes to have productive seasons at the WR position.Other Offensive Impact Players:Joe Robertson (RB)Defensive SummaryThe Cardinal defense also returns just 2 starters from a unit that allowed 21 points per game in 2006. Garrett McNeil is back for his senior season at his DT position. The Bridge City linebackers should be solid led by Kris Wediken and Michael Kosh. Bridge City will have to rely on its defense to keep them in games early in the season until the offense comes around. Other Defensive Impact Players:Michael Seal (LB)The Cardinals open their 2007 season with the Liberty Panthers at home in week 0. They travel to Lumberton on September 14 before hosting Kelly on September 21 to close non-district play. Big Red opens 21-3A play on September 28 at Hardin-Jefferson. Bayou Bowl VIII will take place on October 19 when rival Orangefield comes to town. Cardinal Supporter
I was told he definitely will not play for BC. It would be good if he went to Kelly. He is a good running back.
