Guys don’t forget Silsbee did blast HF by 20+ the first time silsbee clearly over looked this team in the 2nd game but Coach Sig will have them ready to go against HJ if HF would have beaten silsbee last year then that would have been super impressive silsbee is down a few notches and are beatable HF deserves to win the way they have played this season it’s our fault if we didn’t come to play but I bet they will be ready come next week.

Silsbee is going to be fine.  And I know you guys think the second coming of the class of 2019 on the way.  But you either do or will realize how special that group was.  You had 4 kids on that team that will play D1 basketball (I hear glowing reports on Tyler constantly on what he’s doing in juco in Kansas).  On a 4A team.  And McCain had the ability to be the best kid on the floor in every game he played from freshman year on (and was the best player in San Antonio in that State Championship game). And if you haven’t noticed, Adams, as a college freshman, is already drawing the attention of NBA folks.  Yes, you heard me right.  Maybe you will catch lightning in a bottle twice, just maybe.

But that group was a once in a lifetime type class.  It will be unfair to every class that comes through Silsbee for the rest of time to use that bunch as the measuring stick.  Simply enjoy that you will almost always be one of the better teams in the area.

I think most talking about this group are talking about that class as graduating class group being that good.  But Yeah that is an awful tough expectation to put on them.  That one year class may be 7 or 8 deep is what they are saying where as the last few years you had a mixture of graduating classes to reach that depth.  Now will they all stay at that level through high school and other variables...we will have to wait and see.  For that group to have the top 4 players reach the level of the 4 you mentioned well that will take lots of work and other things to fall in place.  Like you said that doesn’t happen often at our level......well at least in small towns!

Pretty good basketball players come out of this district. I think I saw where the Saladin kid that graduated a few years ago from HJ was leading the nation in 3 point percentage. Should be a nice rivalry building over the next few years again between Silsbee and HJ. The Hawks have some good young kids returning.

Really tough to equal the number of athletes on that 2017 team.  Just saw a pic of that team and  12 will be or are playing b-ball or basketball at the next level and I believe another had an offer for a small school. 12 or 13 out of 15 players.....

That might be tough unless they schedule some preseason games or match up in tournaments. They won’t be in the same district next year, neither will HF. Not sure what district those 2 schools ended up in but Silsbee will be in a district with all of the Orange County schools and Lumberton. They will probably still run the district in basketball I’m sure.

One last point on this game that some don’t seem to realize.  I have seen comments about beating them last year by 100 and losing this year.  One thing of course is we aren’t the same team with what we lost to graduation. A second is the coaching change at HF and the job he is doing.  BUT the big point of this post is that THIS is not the same HF team many of these players moved here this year and are not typical of what you have seen at HF in recent past.  They came in with a better skill set.

Exactly how many moved in and how many of those are starting?

I in no way am saying that Coach Rideaux is not a good coach, but some of their success must be attributed to the number of transfers from Beaumont.  I think that if you add those players to just about any struggling program in the area, or non-struggling program, you will see an improvement in results.  I have spoken on here about how I don't agree with his methods, but obviously he has a good enough relationship with those players that it is successful.  As they continue to get transfers, I am sure that their success will increase.  I also don't like the transfers coming in.  That is why I enjoyed small town basketball so much.  You didn't have transfers near as much in the small towns.  I guess it was a matter of time. Sad state of affairs for these programs that don't benefit from that type of activity.

I don’t mind transfers. I just don’t like recruiting. Save that for the next level. If your coaching high school just coach what you have to the best of your abilities

There have always been transfers for a variety of reasons.  Parents got a new job, divorce, new home, etc.. and I have always liked to have seen it happen in junior high grades or down.  I know it's not always like that, though.  Life happens and nobody can do anything about it.  But.. when several athletically gifted kids transfer to the same high school.. as high school kids.  Well, that'll make you scratch your head.

Disclaimer: I'm not suggesting or accusing anyone of anything.  Just saying..

HJ and Silsbee have been in different districts before and scheduled head to head games. I would be surprised if they don’t continue to play.

You gotta play somewhere I guess. I imagine it’s pretty hard to make the team or get playing time in Bmt or PA. Those teams come at you with 10-12 good basketball players and can sub a fresh 5 without missing a beat. I’m sure a lot of talented kids don’t make the cut. I just wish they’d come play at Vidor and be a star lol, I know... not going to happen.
