49th Straight State Tournament

I will be making my 49th straight boys basketball state tournament. Went to my first one in 1972. Have not missed a year since.

Soooooooooo glad UIL moved it to San Antonio. Much better place for tournament.

Facts .. the kids, parents and fans deserve better than that. Parking and getting into that place is horrible The Alamodome isn’t even a good place to watch a football game.

U were going 7 years before I was born wow. Congratulations heck of a streak. You have seen some incredible talent along the way.

I think you have seen everytime Silsbee, HJ, Hebert, Pollard, Central, Kountze, Lincoln, and Ozen made it. You even had a chance to see Shaquille O'neal while at Cole back in 89.

Yep. That Brookeland team was something else. Point guard could shoot lights out.

This will make my 26th consecutive year I believe. Started taking my son and a family friend. Now three grandkids have been added  to the mix. What’s that cash register sound?  Ka Ching. Lol

I’m going with Yates vs Lancaster, I believe it was the largest crowd at a UIL Basketball Game.

The 4A Finals could be Houston vs Houston

The Alamodome venue is a bad location, it’s too  large and it will never sell out. I prefer Austin

Really too many to choose from. Like a poster stated, the Silsbee/Dallas Carter game was very special. But, if I had to pick my most memorable game, it would have to be the 1972 4A (then top classification) state semifinal between Dallas Roosevelt and Houston Wheatley. My first state tournament and as an 8 year old this game was what got me hooked on going every year. The top two teams in the state with Roosevelt's Ira Terrell and Wheatley's Eddie Owens going at it. Game ended 111-109 Roosevelt in regulation, no overtime and no 3 point line. But what I remember the most was Gregory Gym being packed to the max and folks outside who could not get in had climbed up on the roof to watch thru the windows on the roof. It was crazy!!!

Many numerous other games but that's the one that is forever fixed in my mind.

Southland conference tournament is going to be family only (sort of, each player and coach gets so many tickets to their games only).

NBA suspends the season till further notice. What would happen if they cancel the tourney? Play later or just no state champions this year? 

I hope it doesn't get that far though...
