PN-G Going To The Spread!!!!!

Word from the Reservation is Coach Burnett said it's time to go to the spread. Opinions on this?

Someone from Silsbee was telling me if Silsbee ever went to the spread they would really be dangerous with the athletes they have.

Aggies' might need to correct me since I was in the service still, but I believe they ran the spread back in the late 90's and were pretty successful with it.

I heard they were a little lighter on the bodyweight back then. 

Silsbee has been on a streak with pretty good size players the last few years

and I think that works real well into an I-Formation/Veer running game.

Still learning the X's and O's myself,  I hope I have learned a bit....

It is suited for Ned's quarterback and o-line.  If Neumann feels a change is needed after 14 years, the personel must be there.

Is Ned's QB a runner?

Yes.  He is able to tuck the ball in and take off, he has pretty good size, 6'1" about 200.  He can throw on the run or stand in the pocket and seems to be pretty accurate.

I think PNG's move will be a good one, not so much for the team, but more for the community and fans. I would get tired of all those toss rights and toss lefts and a counter here and there with an occasional first down too.

Who know? Maybe it will work out for them. At any rate, good luck Indians on a successful season (except against Nederland). ;D

Won't work as compared to what BMT? Ozen's 1-9 season last year running it?

Coaching killed us last year! When Brooks was here it worked just fine and it will get back that way starting this year.

You have to have speed and quite a bit of it for the spread to really work good!

we have plenty of speed for it to work. two 4.4 runners at running back and a 6'2 220 full back running a 4.59. wideouts running equally as fast.. i think its their

I agree.....I had just had to throw that jab in there. Although, I think great execution of an offense (route running, good blocking) can overcome any speed issues PN-G might have. The key is being able to execute which is easier said than done.

Silsbee ran the spread for two years.  I think they were 1-19 during that span.  2002-03 seasons maybe.

One thing also needed is a good o-line to protect your QB so he can get it to those WR out there in the routes..

well we think the o-line can pull it out. but our backs can help block on some pass plays

Backs helpin out is always a good thing.. Just hope that DJ from Ned dont have a good game when he rushes cause if he does get ready to see some hits on Tatum like last year..

PNG's-OC-Coach Welch knows the Spread from his days @ North Shore in the early 90's. He knows the OFF. inside and out. I think this will help PN-G utilize they're players potential.

I think the spread can work for both Mid-County teams, but I do not think it will be the exclusive offense for either team. I think both will show the spread at times but not all the time. I think a lot of the reason for teams moving to the spread is seeing what teams like SLC and some others have done with it. They play several teams each season with more speed than them and more athletes, but it seems to work well for them.

I also will have to see all of this supposed PN-G speed to believe it. Where were all of these world class sprinters last season?

I thought PNG tried the spread some years back and it did not work and they discarded it in mid season? It works well at some schools, SLC, but I do not know if it worked well the first season they tried it. It may be an offense that needs to be run for a season before it is executed well.
