*FIRST DAY IN FULL PADS COMMENT THREAD*

Recommended Posts

I tell you what, my first day in pads was "only" 35 years ago.ย  I hear people say it is hotter now than it was back then..... we only got one water break and that included 2 dixie cups of water for each of us so I think it was HOTTER back then!ย  But I would have to say, the biggest thing I learned was that my 140 pounds was no match for those 200+ pound linemen types when we did bull in the ring or the hamburger drill!!!

29 years years ago was my last first day in pads as a Senior. We got the mid-practice water break but instead of plain water, we got Quick-Kick. Our student manager mixed it up in a 5 gallon GOTT water cooler and we always knew what flavor we were getting by the color of the arm he used to stir it up! We were so thirsty we would have drank the stuff even if he'd used his foot to do the stirring!

Today's coaches are a lot smarter and keep the kids hydrated during practice.

26 years for me - Humble, Texas -ย  I remember after your first cup you could fight your way to the open 5 gallon jug and dip your cup in for a second drink - but - you usually had to use your teeth to filter out the grass and dirt from all the filthy hands ahead of you- ahhhhhhhhh, but it was wet!ย  ย  ย  ย  NC starts in full pads today around 4:00.

I can remember those colored arms and the sawhorses with pvc pipe

Since this has become the "Old Timers Corner Thread", my old memory of H.S. Football was 25+ yrs ago. We had one brief water break just like previous post's, but we would suck on old towels soaked from a water jug in between plays. The coaches would make us run gassers if we got caught sucking on those hydrated towels. Times are way different these days.

Sorry Coop, us Old Farts have to relive our glory years ever now and then.ย  ;D

Bucster...im laphin' my head off!!! ;D

Nothing beats the old water troths, with the extended water hose and the pvc pipe, with the holes in it on top of a wood horse..........now that was coaching tech at it's finest!!!

Man, I hated trying to get water that way. Then the coach would jack with you and tie the hose when he thought you were getting too much water. "Alright guys line up for 10,6,4's" 10- 100 yard dashes, 6 -60 yard dashes, 4 -40 yard dashes at the end of a two days sucked.
