Area teams get seasons rolling

There are still a few weeks to go before the football teams but volleyball teams start up today in a big way.

The Bridge City Lady Cardinals have the toughest start as they travel to Port Neches to take on the Rock-A-Noos and the Barbers Hill Lady Eagles.

Bridge City is slated to play first at 5 p.m. against either of the two teams and turn around and play the other afterwards.

The Lady Cardinals are looking to get off to a fast start and prepare for the tough District 21-3A schedule that starts Sept. 4 with a home game against Hardin-Jefferson.

Bridge City’s dristrict rival Orangefield starts the Linda Riddick era tonight with a match in Deweyville.

Riddick is making her head coaching debut after taking over for Becky Sanders.

The Lady Bobcats and Lady Pirates will start their freshman at 4:30 p.m.

Also tonight the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Lady Bears have a tough opener tonight traveling to face the Hamshire-Fannett Lady Longhorns.

The Lady Bears are looking to make the playoffs for a second consecutive season in 2007. They open district Aug. 28 when the Lady Bears play host to Central.

Vidor opens today with a road game in Silsbee. The Lady Pirates, who are coached by Misti Melancon, open District 22-4A play with an away game at Nederland. Nederland is the defending district champion.
