OF sweeps past Buna

Gabriel Pruett

The Orange Leader

ORANGEFIELD — Orangefield seniors Allie Beach and Laura Riddick got on a roll Friday night and there was almost nothing Buna could do but sit back and watch.

Beach hit for 10 straight service points in the second game while Riddick connected for 12 straight in the third game as the Lady Bobcats swept the Lady Cougars in three games.

Orangefield improved to 4-2 on the season with a 25-20, 25-12 and 25-4 in the Lady Bobcats’ home debut.

Riddick lead the way for Orangefield with six kills while chiming in three assists and eight aces. KK Little was the main set-up girl for Orangefield with a match-high 13 assists to go with two kills and one ace.

“The girls played well tonight,†Orangefield Coach Linda Riddick said. “There is still plenty we need to work on. Our serving was so much better tonight than it was on Thursday in the Vidor Tournament. I was pleased to see that start to come around.â€

The serving game was on point against the Lady Cougars as Orangefield hit for 19 aces in the match as Beach hit for five overall to go with her three kills.

After a see-saw battle in the first game the Lady Cougars were hanging in with Orangefield up 10-8.

That is when Beach decided enough was enough.

Beach went on her 10 point tear which included all five of her aces. Aimee Scales had two of her four kills during the run.

Buna could never recover and Olivia Wagner, who had five kills, finished the game off with a kill giving Orangefield the 25-12.

The third and final game was never even close.

Orangefield jumped out to a quick 6-1 lead behind the nice serve of Scales. It included two aces.

Jessica Maass then hit for four straight service points to give Orangefield a 11-2 lead.

After a Buna serve went out of bounds and Orangefield up 12-3, Riddick went on her roll.

Riddick hit her 12 points, including five aces, and Buna’s shots kept finding the net or out of bounds shot after shot.

A Lady Bobcat shot hit the net making it 24-4 and on the next serve a Buna serve went out to give Orangefield the 25-4 win.

“The girls are having so much fun,†Linda Riddick said. “You never see different groups because they are always together. We knew chemistry would be an important part.â€

The Lady Bobcats will jump back into the Vidor Tournament at 9:30 a.m. with a match against Diboll.
