Slavery Never Ended -- It Was Perfected!

Dang, I'm a little disappointed that no one would take a stab at this.  But, I can understand why.  If something happens for a long time, it becomes normal and no one thinks twice about it.  Here goes:  Think about all the stuff you have to get PERMISSION to do, just about anything, with a few exceptions, from a government entity.

I understand where you were headed with this. I just don’t consider it slavery.

There are different forms.  Can you drive a car without the permission of the government (master)?  You need your car inspected then you need get a license sticker.  Done yet?  No.  You need to have a drivers license.  Only difference is the government doesn't force you to drive.  How about fishing and hunting?  Shall we go there?  Like I said, it's been perfected to the point alot of people don't even realize it!

If you are a U.S. Citizen, yes but if you are an illegal alien, seems like much of those constraints don't apply.

Slavery in the U S defined slaves as chattel property. Like cattle, or goats. Your comparison of that to having to get permission to drive or fish is juvenile at best, irresponsible at worst.

I agree. I guess it’s a matter of viewpoint, but I never had the $h!+ whipped out of me when I go get my fishing license at Walmart...

No, but you will be fined and possibly go to jail if you don't get the government's "permission" to fish or hunt.  People take it for granted now on stuff like this because people thinks this is the way it has to be.  Like I said, "it's been perfected."  You don't pay your county taxes:  They take your house.  You don't think you are enslaved to the county government?

A drug addict is enslaved by drugs.  Again, many forms of slavery!

Slave definition - A person who is the property of and wholly subject to the owner.   So at what point are we considered property?   Many in America fit the description of the last part, to some extent, myself included.  I paid into SS for 50 years, but I get a check at the discretion of the Govt.  I was forced to go on Medicare, so I get that at the discretion of the Govt.  so, I’m not officially “property of” or owned by the Govt, but I’m a slave to their demands (as would be everyone under Single Payer HC).    If I want to keep SS & MC, I will have to abide by the Govt wishes.   They could say, “Hagar, turn in your rifle or you’ll no longer be covered under MC, or you will no longer receive your SS check.  The more power Govt has over you, the closer you become to being a slave by definition.   Of course, the response to my post is, They’d never do that.   After the things I’ve seen in my 74 years, that dog won’t hunt.   I never thought our public colleges would be turning out so many Socialist/Communist.  Never thought Men & Women’s bathrooms wouldn’t be sufficient.   Never thought Christians would be sued for following their beliefs.   Hail, I could go on all night. So don’t bother telling me, They’d never do that.

No, I have an obligation as a property owning citizen to pay tax to support local public services. There may be a better way than ad valorem taxes to do it but then, you don’t want a state income tax either. How do you propose funding streets, water, sewer, and law enforcement?

That’s called change, Hagar.  And if society has no common interests that all must contribute in some way for the good of the whole, it ceases to be a society and the law becomes anarchy. To compare the obligations of citizenship to being a slave is ludicrous in my opinion.

The government has you right where they want you.  Again -- it's been perfected!

You’re silly. You’re not a slave. And You never answered my question. Do you serve a higher being? God, for instance? Are you His slave? What about your parents? Are/were you enslaved by them? Your Employer? Are you a slave to your boss? With your line of thinking,  then we are ALL slaves and always have been and always will be. There is a level of free will to be considered though. You have a choice. You choose to live a certain way or in a certain society, so you have to live within the confines of YOUR free will choices. But like good old Bob Dylan said, “Well it may be the devil, or it may be the Lord, but you’re gonna have to serve somebody...”.

If you are a Christian, then you are absolutely a slave to Christ.  It's a broad term.  Some are negative, some are positive.  Parents, as long as you live in their house, then, yes, you are their slave.  You go by their rules or you are out.   You didn't like my drug addict/slave to drugs comparison?  I know people have been "slavish" to the idea of what they think slavery is/was.  You know, that it must have, can have, only one meaning.  So therefore, any other use is foreign to them.  So -- stop being a thought slave!  Just kidding!

Ok. So we are even slaves to this website. If we don’t follow the rules, then we are out. We are slaves to EVERY fathomable thing in existence that has rules. There has been slavery since Adam & Eve with your reasoning. So, let’s start over... What’s your point to this topic again?

Absolutely, in one form are another!  But, if one is stuck with what they think is slavery's only meaning, well, one will never understand any broader discussions of the word.

No. It doesn’t reach. Apples vs Oranges. Both fruit but not the same things.
