KFDM COOP Posted August 22, 2007 Report Posted August 22, 2007 Central sweeps Hardin-Jeff The Central middle blocker stood patiently while her teammates continued to set and bump the ball during the final volley of Game 3 against Hardin-Jefferson -until Thomas finally got her shot.She didn't have to leap in the air. But she did pull her hand back as far as she could before she spiked the ball across court for the final point of the game.Thomas' game-winning kill capped off a 3-0 victory Tuesday night. Central (2-0) beat the Hawks 25-12, 25-14, 25-19 at the Jaguars' gym."I thought we played well tonight," said Central coach Angel Marsh. "We took them seriously the first game, but I think we kind of slacked off the final two. But I thought overall we did a good job."Thomas put an end to a 3-0 scoring run by Hardin-Jefferson in Game 3.Central led the way 24-16 before the Hawks scored the next three points.Hardin-Jefferson (2-4) was able to come within reach when the Jaguars continued to hit balls out of bounds.Before then Central, which led by as many as 10 points in the game, jumped out to an 18-9 lead. The Jaguars looked to end the game quickly until out-of-bounds hits caught up with the team."I think we became restless in the game," Marsh said. "But we made the adjustments to finish them off."Central's Katrina Harris led the Jaguars with 10 kills. Clarissa Williams added eight kills.Harris and Williams, along with Thomas and Brandi Buckley, are the returning starters from last year's team."Ursula and Brandi are my leaders on the team," Marsh said. "I have a strong group of starters and I look for them to lead us to a winning season this year."Hardin-Jefferson's Taylor McGill led the Hawks with eight kills. Keelee Lang had 15 assists and Caitlyn Kerl had four blocks."We are off to a good start," Marsh said. "We played well against Kelly in our first game, and we executed well against Hardin-Jefferson. Our goal is to continue to improve with each game to prepare for the district season."
