crazy_cajun02 Posted August 28, 2007 Report Posted August 28, 2007 Went down to rollover yeaterday evening, as the refuge was shutdown due to controlled burns. Went out to the oyster reef on the bay side looking for tailing reds and instead found flounder busting bait in shin deep water. They were plum jumping out and doing flips. I made a quick limit and kept the 5 biggest all around 17-18 inches. the rest were all 15 -18". I was using a blurp shrimp, rust colored with a gamagatsu worm hook, free rigged and weedless. just bouncing accross and through the shell. Buddy when it dropped on top of the flounder they were acrobatic. It was a good time until the lightnin' showed up.
Jasperdog94 Posted August 28, 2007 Report Posted August 28, 2007 Lightning has a way of disrupting some great fishing.
BIGDADDYDAVEHJ Posted August 29, 2007 Report Posted August 29, 2007 lighting aint never messed up my fishing...its scared me but ive limited out on trout and reds with it storming
crazy_cajun02 Posted August 29, 2007 Author Report Posted August 29, 2007 I was the same way until 2 years ago the static electricity was so thick that my line was arching up and floating a lead head on the surface of the water. I had heard of that happening from a friend of mine but didn't think anything of it. Let me tell you when your hair stands up and lightning starts hitting close, it aint fun. I was having flasbacks of morter fire dropping too close.
tvc184 Posted August 29, 2007 Report Posted August 29, 2007 Yep. If your hair starts standing up, you are a potential next target.
crazy_cajun02 Posted August 29, 2007 Author Report Posted August 29, 2007 not only that i could taste the metal fillings in my mouth......it was very erie.
tvc184 Posted August 29, 2007 Report Posted August 29, 2007 Time to turn into a worm and try to dig a hole into the ground.
crazy_cajun02 Posted August 30, 2007 Author Report Posted August 30, 2007 you got that right.......I was in a boat out in jacks pocket when this happened and buddy you couldn't get low enough. The rain water in floor didn't help any either.
dav-joel Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 Lightning is no fun. Met it up close flagging rice fields as a teenager for G Mitchell. There is no hole deep enough.
