WOSgrad Posted May 11, 2020 Report Posted May 11, 2020 2020 HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PREVIEWS DAYTON BRONCOS 2019 Record: 1-9 Overall; 0-7 District 8th Place in District 12-5A-II 2019 was a rough year for the Dayton Broncos as they managed only one win the entire season and failed to gain a district win. However, 2020 is a year of change and it starts at the top. Former head coach Jeff Nations has moved into a athletic director only role and the Broncos will be looking to former New Caney offensive coordinator Blake Ware, who has vast experience in the TAPPS ranks as head coach, to lead the Broncos back to prominence. An experienced offense will be counted on to carry a young defense for that to occur. COACHING Head Coach: Blake Ware Assistants: Philip Pendleton (Offensive Coordinator), Freddie Strange (Defensive Coordinator) OFFENSE Ware's version of the Bronco spread will feature eight returning starters. Returning to trigger the offense will be senior quarterback Christian Olige (903 yd passing and 500 yd rushing, 8 TD in 2019). Senior wideout Davin Lee (7 catches, 162 yd, 2 TD in 2019) returns to lead a Bronco receiver corp which will feature juniors Ashton Garner and Donavan Orebo. Senior tailback Gene Fontenot will lead the Dayton rushing attack. Senior tackle Logan Strong will anchor an offensive line which will also feature senior guard Landon Wood, senior lineman Pierre Broussard and junior linemen Brennan Chauvin and Trey Rodgers. Look for sophomore Vernon Harrison to be counted on in the Bronco offense as well. DEFENSE The Bronco 4-2-5 defense will be a young one as only four starters return from 2019. The undoubted leaders up front will be senior defensive tackle Tim Sjolander (2nd team all-district in 2019) and junior outside linebacker Cam'Ron Willis (102 tackles, 2 sacks in 2019). They will be counted on to help out young secondary that will likely feature Harrison. SPECIAL TEAMS Sophomore Gustavo Orozco, who handled the punting duties in 2019, will be counted on to do the punting and place kicking in 2020. Returners will be finalized after summer workouts.
