WOSgrad Posted May 18, 2020 Report Posted May 18, 2020 2020 HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PREVIEWS WEST BROOK BRUINS 2019 Record: 9-3 Overall; 5-2 District Co-Runner Up in District 21-6A While the West Bruins' 2019 season didn't quite match the 2018 6A, Division II State Championship Final appearance, it was definitely a successful season for the Bruins, but it wasn't enough to keep the folks in Beaumont pleased. Head coach Eric Peevey will return a younger squad (eight starters return) along with members of an 8-1-1 JV to keep the Bruin mojo going along. But the Young Bruins are excited for the opportunity to represent the 409 in a rugged new 21-6A which features 6 team who made the playoffs in 2019. COACHING Head Coach: Eric Peevey Assistants: Jeff Breaux (Offensive Coordinator/Tight Ends), Tommie Barrett (Defensive Coordinator/Safeties), Heath Gerlufsen (Assistant Head Coach/Defensive Ends), Beau Berluson (Running Backs), Cameron Debesse (Wide Receivers), Travis Tates (Defensive Line), Chris Coats (Offensive Line/Strength and Conditioning), Kevin Dotson (Offensive Line), Parker James (Cornerbacks), Kurt Zihlman (Quarterbacks), Don Smith (Kickers), Shane McGallion (Asst. - Linebackers), Renwick Johnson (Asst. Defensive Backs), Tristan Nolan (Assistant - Wide Receivers), Justin Brock (Asst. - Offensive Line), Michael Ryals (Asst. - Running Backs/Quarterbacks) OFFENSE The Bruins will return five starters in 2020 from a unit which averaged 41 points and 520 yards a game in 2019. The offense, which will look to stretch defenses from side to side, will be lead by junior quarterback (and LSU commit Bryce Anderson) full time after seeing spot action last year. Also seeing time behind center will be senior Braden Shelton and sophomore Ja'Von Sorrell. A young Bruins will feature lone returning starter Joe Hayes (250 yd, 3 TD in 2019) along with explosive juniors Montavian Jones and Andre Dennis. Look for senior Jordan Carmouche, junior Michael Collins and sophomore Ja'Von Sorrell to make plays at receiver. The Bruins will be stocked at tight end as senior Tyler Tucker and junior Ben Bennett give the Bruins two big time tight ends. The running back position will be a key strength as the 3 headed monster of senior Jordan Guidry (467, 8 TDs in 4 games before going down to injury), junior all-district pick Jamicheal Foxhall (617 yd, 7 TDs) and senior Bud Manuel (318 yd, 4 TD). All of them will run behind a young offensive line which has only one returning starter, senior Cam Hardy. He will be joined by Ashton Janise, Nathan Banks, Chris Gorsich, Quan Vo and Artis Hall with junior Mykel Janise and sophomore Braxton Chambers to play big roles. DEFENSE Three starters return to a Bruin defense which will feature a 3-4 front in 2020. The front seven will be anchored by senior nose tackle Darea McCarthy and junior Cam Coleman. Seniors Keishaun Cantue, Caleb Rawls, along with juniors Ian Lane, Chauncey Phillips and Jayden Davis all look to see action at defensive end. The linebacker corp will feature two returning lettermen at inside linebacker, senior Gabe Silva and junior Garrett Richard. Also seeing action on the inside will be senior Bobby Jones and junior Trey Durousseau. Junior outside linebackers Jadarius Hamilton and Justin Williams should end the year with several sacks. The Bruin secondary will feature a lot of new faces as only senior free safety Caleb David and Anderson, who will see only limited action due to assuming full time quarterback duties. David will be paired with junior strong safety transfer (from Goose Creek Memorial) Reggie Holmes. Senior Clifford Bradley and junior transfer (from Silsbee) Jayden Briscoe will also see time at free safety while sophomore Darius Simien will see time at strong safety. Junior Khristian Pugh and seniors Addison Fulton and Leedrick Senegal will see the lion's share of action at cornerback SPECIAL TEAMS Senior Keith Delahousse will handle the place kicking for West Brook while Sheldon will be doing the punting. Anderson, Jones, Sorrell, Foxall, Hayes and Dennis will share the Bruin return duties. BMTSoulja1 Posted July 6, 2020 Report Posted July 6, 2020 I really didn’t know Brook would be this young. Nontheless, that 3 headed monster in the backfield will be nice, especially if that young o-line gels. And I’m sure Anderson will be huge at QB. I also think the defense will be better than anyone expects since they changed Defensive coordinators...
Cougar239 Posted July 7, 2020 Report Posted July 7, 2020 Wow, didn't know Reggie transferred to WB. Nice addition for them. He's stong, athletic and a solid defender.
