GAINESVILLE, Texas — An 18-year-old baseball player has died after suffering heat stroke during the first day of workouts at North Central Texas College.

Josh Fant, a freshman pitcher, collapsed Monday while jogging near the end of the practice, said Condoa Parrent, college vice president of student services.

He died Wednesday night at Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner's office.

Fant had participated in a practice that included throwing about 30 pitches and then rotating to the outfield, Parrent said.

"It was nothing real strenuous," Parrent said.

After he collapsed, Fant was taken indoors and iced down while an ambulance responded, Parrent said.

Fant graduated from Granbury High School, where he had played on the varsity team for three years and pitched in district playoff games the last two, Granbury coach Pat Watson said.
