WOSgrad Posted June 3, 2020 Report Posted June 3, 2020 2020 HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PREVIEWS COLLEGE STATION COUGARS 2019 Record: 8-4 Overall, 5-2 District Co-Runner Up in District 8-5A-I The UIL realignment usually brings heavy hitters into talent rich Southeast Texas and in February, they did not disappoint, bringing the Cougars of College Station into a Southeast Texas district. The 2017 state champs come off a 8-4 season and a district runner up spot out of old district 8-5A-I in 2019. Coach Steve Huff returns 5 starters on each side of the ball to vault to the top of new 8-5A-I in 2020. COACHING Head Coach: Steve Huff Assistant Coaches: Stoney Pryor (Offensive Coordinator), Chance Locklear (Defensive Coordinator), Kyle Walsh, Dwight Mincher, Eddie Hancock, Chris Litton, Trent Vittrup, Gregg Frashure, Chad Peevey, Kyle King, Brian Edwards, De Marques Jones, Jarrett Beckhusen, Jacob McMurtry, Evan Foxworth OFFENSE The Cougars return five starters to their multiple spread offense in 2020. Returning to trigger the offense will be junior quarterback Jett Huff (73-113, 1015 yd, 8 TD in 2019). Senior running back Roderick Brown (1st team all-district, 222 carries, 1207, 16 TD in 2019) returns to shoulder the running load with senior Terry Green (271 yd, 2 TD in 4 games) also contributing to the running game. Junior wide outs Dalton Carnes (27 catches, 342 yd, 3 TD) and Houston Thomas (29 catches, 403 yd, 3 TD) will be joined by junior receiver Traylon Suel and senior tight end Will Henson. Senior guard Ever O'Neal and junior tackle Corey Hendrix will be joined by senior tackles Logan Kasper and Jo Vaughn Holmes as well as junior center Cade Farar. DEFENSE College Station returns five starters to the Cougar 3-4 defense in 2020. Isaac Almarez (8-5A-I Defensive Lineman of the Year) will lead a line which will also include senior nose guard Tyrese Cooper and junior defensive ends Caleb Skow and Connor Lingren. Senior inside linebacker Bubba Carter (2nd team all-district) and junior Jaxson Slanker will be joined by junior Tyndau McNamara at linebacker. Junior safety Kyle Walsh and senior defensive back Keyshaun Cooper will return to anchor a Cougar secondary which will also include seniors Jaxon Williams and Lucas Sampson and Byron Johnson. SPECIAL TEAMS Junior Dawson Schremp (1st team all-district) will handle both the place kicking and punting duties. Carnes will be the primary kick returner.
