WOSgrad
2020 HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PREVIEWS SHELBYVILLE DRAGONS 2019 Record: 7-4 District, 3-2 District 3rd Place in 12-2A-I The 2019 season started just fine for the Shelbyville Dragons as David Benbow's guys ripped off seven wins in their first eight games, but a Week 9 loss to Groveton sent the Dragons into a tailspin from which they were not able to recover, falling in the bi-district round of the playoffs. 2020 brings hope that there will be no repeat of the 2019 late season spin as six starters return on offense and eight on defense, which leaves Shelbyville ready to compete for a district title. COACHING Head Coach: David Benbow Assistant Coaches: Kyle Stewart (Defensive Coordinator), Zach Hubbard (Offensive Coordinator), Michael Bill Taylor (Offensive/Defensive Line), David Schmitt (Receivers/Corners), Kenneth Thomas (Running Backs/Safeties), Joey Williams (Quarterbacks/Defensive Ends) OFFENSE Six starters return to the Shelbyville offense in 2020. Junior quarterback Jakory Standley will take over the Dragon spread offense with senior running back A.J. Cartwright (467 yd, 7 TD in 2019) joining him in the backfield. A veteran line returns for Shelbyville which include junior tackles Trey Cartwright (2nd team all-district) and Dawson Jackson, senior guard Dawson Windham, junior center Eli Taylor, junior guard Tyler Merriman. DEFENSE Eight starters return to the Shelbyville defense. The Dragons' odd man front will feature senior two time all-state pick Grady Clay and Cartwright (1st team all-district) at defensive end, Windham (1st team all-district) and senior Hagan Crumpton at defensive tackle and Seth Freeman at nose guard. Senior Caleb Ridgeway (1st team all-district) and Dylan Robbins will line up at linebacker while Standley (2nd team all-district) will anchor the secondary which also features Lister and senior defensive back Jarod Perez.
