KFDM COOP Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 Lady Cards Volleyball Falls to SDSU 3-1Lamar Sports InformationSeptember 3, 2007 - 9:45PMBEAUMONT - After rallying to take game one of their match against South Dakota State, the Lamar University volleyball team could not hold off the Jackrabbits for the remainder of the night, falling 3-1 at McDonald Gym. Trailing 26-20 in the opening game, the Lady Cards rallied behind the strong serving of Genevieve Gladle and Andrea Hamilton to take the game 30-28. After game one however the Lady Cards could not find the rhythm they had at the end of the first frame, while the Jackrabbits continued to build momentum. South Dakota State took game two 30-26 then stormed to a 30-21 win in game four and took game four 30-24 to close out the match. The Lady Cardinals were led by Molli Abel who had 12 kills with a .400 hitting percentage, while setter Adrianne Meengs passed out 43 assists. Defensively Lamar was led by Hamilton's 19 digs, while Gladle picked up 12 digs. The Jackrabbits were led by Mackenzie Angner's 17 kills and 12 digs while Emily Rooney and Amy Anderson each added 11 kills. Setter Melia Iwamoto also had a solid match, passing out 49 assists and collecting 12 digs. The SDSU defense was led by Samantha Pearson who has 14 digs. As a team the Lady Cardinals hit just .156 for the match, while South Dakota State hit .275. The Lady Cards will be back in action this weekend when they head to Fort Worth, Texas for the TCU tournament. Lamar will take on Georgia Southern, TCU, New Orleans and Denver at the tournament.
