WOSgrad
2020 HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PREVIEWS BURKEVILLE MUSTANGS 2019 Record: 0-9 Overall, 0-5 District 6th Place in District 12-2A-II The youth of the Burkeville Mustangs definitely showed in 2019 as 12 of the 18 men on the Mustang roster were experiencing high school football for the very first time. The result of that was predictable as the Mustangs failed to pick up a single win. The young Mustang team suffered another blow in March as junior-to-be quarterback (as well as 2nd team all-district linebacker) Dewight Fowler was lost in an automobile accident. But Burkeville is a prideful and supportive community and Coach Eric Williams, who returns eight starters on each side of the ball, looks to take the youngsters, now a year more experienced, to compete for a playoff spot. COACHING Head Coach: Eric Williams Assistant Coach: Richard Bottini (Defensive Coordinator), Terrell Cuney (Offensive Coordinator), Mark Crorey (Special Teams/Middle School Coordinator) OFFENSE Eight starters return to the Mustang offense in 2020. While the quarterback position is yet to be finalized, the Mustangs will bring some experience back to the backfield as senior running back Chris Stelly and sophomore running back LaTrayvion Mays will be joined by senior fullback Austin Scott. Sophomore receivers Adam Legros and Caleb Jarrell will lead a receiver corp which will also include sophomore tight end Liam Anderson. Senior guards Shakori Ford and Ulysses Hall, junior center William Urie and junior tackle Shelby Evans will return to a line on which junior tackle Jacob McMahon, sophomore guards Jacob and Lucas Woods and sophmore tackle Caleb Jarrell. DEFENSE Eight starters return to the Burkeville 4-2-5 defense in 2020. Anderson (at defensive end), Evans (at defensive tackle) and junior defensive end Kavin Simmons will be joined on the line sophomore defensive end Seth Ruckel and sophomore tackles Nathaniel Albright and Gavin Minnaar on the front line. Sophomore linebacker Harvey Davis, junior linebacker Daelond Fredieu and Mays will line up at linebacker. Stelly and senior cornerback Andrew Edwards will anchor the Mustang secondary. Sophomore Johnsteven McBride will also be counted on to contribute. SPECIAL TEAMS Jarrell will do the kicking and punting for Burkeville while Stelly will be the primary kick returner.
