Milo and corn produced mourning doves near Amarillo. Hunters there said the afternoon flight was much better than the morning. Abilene and Knox City hunters had good shoots over corn and milo. The Bogota and Mount Pleasant areas enjoyed shoots over soybeans. The season runs through Oct. 31. Prospects are good.Central Zone Dove — The San Antonio area produced spectacular shoots of whitewings. Outfitters said it was the best flight they can recall. Castroville and Sabinal gave up limit shoots of whitewings. Uvalde was solid as was Del Rio. Brownwood and Stephenville saw good flights of mourners. Closer to the coast, Huffman, Katy, Sealy, Columbus and Devers shot mostly mourners with a whitewing or two. Thunderstorms around the Houston area put a damper on the flight. The season runs through Oct. 31. Prospects are good.Special White Wing Area — Whitewing hunters had plenty of birds to shoot around Harlingen, Brownsville, McAllen and Port Mansfield. Most of the birds were taken over milo and wild sunflowers. Rain in the region did hurt the flight a bit, but as soon as the sun came out the flight resumed. The final two days of the special season is Sept. 8–9. As a reminder, afternoon-only hunting is permitted. Prospects are good.Teal Migration — Bluewings are beginning to show in force around the state. Lakes and reservoirs that were at record low levels a year ago are brimming with water to cover shallow flats and coves. Along the coast, record rainfall since July has marsh ponds and prairie ponds overflowing. The inundation of freshwater has helped vegetation growth in the marsh which should hold birds. A weak cool front later this week should deposit more birds. Teal season runs Sept. 15–30 with a bag limit of four birds.
