NEW CANEY EAGLES

2019 Record: 10-1 Overall, 7-0 District

9-5A-I District Champions

It looked to be smooth sailing for the New Caney Eagles as they cruised to a 10-1 district mark.  However, that season didn't translate to playoff success as the season ended only one week into the playoffs.  2020 will reflect a season of change as Travis Reeve comes over from Class 4A, DII state power Cuero to take over the program from longtime head coach Brady Pennington, who retired in the off season.  Reeve inherits an experienced defense (7 starters return) which will be counted on until a young offense (4 starters return) grows up.

COACHING

Head Coach: Travis Reeve

Assistant Coaches: Jordan Hataway (Assistant Head Coach), Zach Linscomb (Defensive Coordinator), Charlie Reeve (Offensive Coordinator), Chris Coles, Richard Gunnels, Robert Murphy, Aaron Grubb, Blake Reeve, Josh Busa, Ray Ayala, Alvin Sullivan, Carlos Chapa

OFFENSE

Four starters return to New Caney offense in 2020.  Junior Jaydon Tutwiler-Drew will take over the reigns of the Eagle attack.  Senior tailback Cole Sanders (112 carries, 1070 yd, 16 TD), returns to spearhead the rushing game but also expect to see sophomore running back Kedrick Reescano in the backfield this season.  Senior wide receiver Billy Williams (14 catches, 317 yd, 1 TD) return to lead a New Caney receiver corp which will include senior wide out Orian Wormley, senior tight end D.J. Harris, junior wide out D'Angelo Pearson and junior tight end Cameron Cooper.  Senior tackle John Cantrell (2nd team all-district) will lead the Eagle offensive line.

DEFENSE

Seven starters return to the New Caney defense in 2020.  Senior defensive ends Rodolfo Mayorquin (1st team all-district) and D.J. Harris and senior defensive tackles Camron Cooper (1st team all-district) and Hector Guadardo all return to a defensive line which will also see contributions from senior lineman Chris Moore.  Senior inside linebacker Kenny Williams (1st team all-district) will lead a New Caney linebacker corp which will include Reescano.  Sanders will line up at free safety and senior cornerback D'juan Grant (1st team all-district) to anchor a secondary that will include Pearson and Billy Williams.

SPECIAL TEAMS

While the place kicking duties will be finalized during fall practice, Drew will be counted on for the punting.  Sanders will be the primary kick returner.

Looking for big years from DJ Harris and CJ Sanders. Texas Football has DJ as the preseason 5A defensive player of the year.  CJ has was awarded a district superlative the last three years. Hopefully the new QB Jaydon Tutweiller will develop as well as the last three from NC did.  The defense will be the strong suit to start the season.
