WOSgrad Posted June 28, 2020 Report Posted June 28, 2020 2020 HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PREVIEWS NORTH SHORE MUSTANGS 2019 Record: 15-1 Overall, 7-0 Overall Class 6A, Division I State Champions It has been a special couple of years for the North Shore Mustangs as Jon Kay's Mustangs have brought the last two Class 6A, Division I State Championships to the Galena Park ISD. Will a 3 peat be in the cards for the back to back state champs? The quantity of starters indicate no as only four offensive starters and 3 starting defenders. But the quality of those returning starters scream yes! COACHING Head Coach: Jon Kay Assistant Coaches: Willie Gaston (Offensive Coordinator/Quarterback), Garrett Cross (Defensive Coordinator/Linebackers), Cory Laxen (Strength and Conditioning/Offensive Line), Shaun Wynn (Defensive Line), Steve Lewis (Defensive Line), J.T. Cleveland (Defensive Line), Nick Flores (Safeties), Theadis Reagins (Safeties), Justin Isadore (Linebackers), Patrick Robertson (Defensive Backs), Ruben Amaya (Offensive Linemen), Brandon Middleton (Wide Receivers), Chino Fontenette (Running Backs), Lamon Atkins (Wide Receivers), Robert Harmon (Offensive Line) OFFENSE Four starters return to the Mustang offense in 2020. Key among them is the 2019 21-6A Offensive Co-MVP, quarterback Dematrius Davis. The hole at the running back position will be filled by senior running backs Brannon Davis and Caleb Rawls, as well as junior back Xavier Owens. Production returns to the receiver corp as senior wide receivers Charles King and Shadrach Banks return with senior wide out Syncere Green and junior Jhalyn Bailey joining them. Senior Jaeden Roberts (1st team all-district) will be the lone returning lineman with seniors Ed'Zavier DeBlaw, Isaac Zuniga, Siul Alvarado, Derrick Belton, Henry Goforth and Jacob Peters looking to fill the void. DEFENSE Three starters return to the North Shore 4-3 defense in 2020. Senior defensive tackles Alonzo (1st team all-district) and Aaron (2nd team all-district) Brown return to lead a defensive line which will also see contributions from senior linemen Lucas Banks and Broc LeBlanc, as well as junior linemen Kris Ross, Jacoby Brass and Kenyarie Evans. The linebacker corp will look to gain experience as juniors Kent Battle, Kydric Chaisson, Josh Garrett and senior Darius Clark all look to fill the bill. Junior Denver Harris returns to lead a Mustang secondary which will include seniors Daniel Whitaker, Stanley Brooks and Antonio Harris as well as junior Caleb Flagg.
