So just move to small town to avoid infection? Is there a reason (science  seems to be all the rage lately) behind this? Are they going off of total number of potential infections or per capita rate? Can small schools self-identify as covid-negative even if test says positive?

Just a weird stance taken by UIL, IMO

I'm guessing here and not saying i agree.  Just trying to guess on why the decision was made.

Pure math says that smaller communities would have reduced chances of transmission.  Why is the line between 4a/5a?  Gotta put it somewhere I guess.

I had this conversation with a medical health professional that has worked with local ISD's.  My premise was - What happens when a coach hears of a kid that tested positive and squashes it or hides it somehow?

The answer was "That is not just a bad idea.  That is a career ending decision that carries with it a very high probability of legal consequences both criminal and civil.  The coach is putting the future of his career, his family, and possibly his freedom in jeopardy by depending on the ability of a 14-17 year old kid to keep their mouth shut."

Once I played it out in my mind,  Its going to be hard to imagine a coach doing that.

You still think we will play Katy Jordan week 3?

Not sure which is why I didn't include that game or any area games against KIPP schools.

Jordan is not aligned to any district during its first two years.  So it is not automatically delayed as the other Katy ISD schools are.  So that the decision on Jordan's schedule will have to be made by the Katy ISD.  Same with KIPP schools.

One possibility for allowing small schools to begin as scheduled is that spring sports rely on kids playing fall sports to a large extent. That's not as big a deal with large schools.

Just read on Tepper twitter that 81% of Texas high school students are 5A/6A.  Didn't realize it was that large of a percentage.  Might be way the line was drawn where it was.

Very interesting to see the spilt, many things are going to be screwed up from this... I wonder with school districts that have smaller and big schools what happens then... small school playoffs will be flipping for home games because the 5A/6A will still be playing mainly through there playoffs... I wonder what this does to spring sports and basketball.

If 6A/5A schools start at same time and play a full schedule, shouldn't games they have scheduled with other 6A/5A schools still be played?

They should. That is why I took the 6A/5A vs. 6A/5A games off of the list.
