Football over...full team. Who are the projected starting five for Silsbee? The 8th grade I saw play last year was well oiled. Looked like a JV team. I’m sure a few of them will be starting on Varsity this year.

I think Harris, Harper and Miller are pretty safe bets to start. If I had to guess the other two, maybe Gilder and Jones or Williams. Gilder did start most games from last year. Jones could give us that big we've been missing, assuming he's improved and can stay out of foul trouble.

Most the really young cats will probably rotate off the bench.

My prediction is Sig will probably get out coached by Davis once again this year. Davis always seems to do more with less, especially against Silsbee.

Lol this is a funny statement the fact Coach Sigler in game 3 forced HJ to play man which they hate to do and couldn’t stop Silsbee in OT is funny

Chill out newbie. If Davis had guys with half the talent of Bush or McCain Sig wouldn't stand a chance. Davis competes with a squad of mathletes and guys who can't touch the rim. Sig is carried by his talent every year.

In Lakers vs Heat, did Frank Vogel "force" the Heat to defend in a certain manner or did LeBron and AD cause that?   Is Vogel a better coach than Spoelstra?

Believe it or not, I wouldn't consider Silsbee that talented last year. We were mainly two kids surround by freshman and an ever changing roster. Not to mention very little in the size department.

That all starts to change this year though. Future problems for Coach Sigler may be finding playing time for everyone in the years to come.

This year will be transitional. I wouldn't expect the world from this bunch yet, but also wouldn't be surprised if they pull off a few upsets either.

Tigers94, would you consider beating HJ an upset this year ??? I believe the young Tigers will beat HJ in the playoffs

If they beat HJ early in the season, yeah I'd consider that an upset. Once these kids get some experience under their belts anything could happen later on.

I agree with this 100%

He’s been carried to 760 wins lol

Excellent point. A coach does not just stumble up on 760 wins.  If it was that easy every coach would reach that level.  A coach can't just roll out the ball and let his payers run then go into the office & mark off another day toward retirement.  Sigler had to manage attitudes & egos, on & off the team. In the stands.  He took what he had and adapted his talent to his system.   He sells his teams on playing defense.  He gets a team full of relatively short runners he gets them to trap and press. Defense is consistent. Kid rolls in with a good but streaky  jump shot.  Homemade shot developed on the concrete at 21st, or Waldo Matthews, 9th street, when I was a boy.  Mom ain't got no $thousands to hire a shooting coach. The player hits his open shots beautiful.  When he is missing, defense.  Trap and press, all the way to regional finals, all the way to SA.  All the way to back to back state championships.

I'm watching a APSU game early in the season last year.  Player on the opposing team throws a cross court pass.  Jay Adams breaks on the ball and takes it the other way for a lay up.  The player from the other team hadn't watched Silsbee basketball video.  Probably never heard of Silsbee or their coach.   Adams gets loose the rest of the season, hits jumpers. Runs beautiful lay ups.  Makes a name for himself.  The influence of his high school coach played a part in all that.

If that’s the case they are going to have a floor full of freshman doing unreal stuff. Bush may have been the best high school player I’ve ever seen.

It will be by committee it sounds like. You can't replace a Braelon Bush. You can't replace a Jordyn Adams or Devon McCain. This new groups seems to have some solid kids. Im not sure any will have the skill set of the mentioned 3 but they will be good.

This is what people miss.  Yes, Silsbee might be deeper this year.  I have a VERY hard time believing they will be better.   Put LeBron on Sacramento and you don’t think they are instantly better than the Lakers?   Bush was that kind of equivalent at the 4A level. Silsbee got spoiled having him, Adams and McCain all at the same time.  They could go 50 years without having another player as good as Bush.  I would say he and Weisbrod are probably the best two Hs players I have seen in SETX over the past 25 years.

It took me a few years to convince my Yates alumni that Joseph Young, Brandon Peters, Darius Gardner, Alexander Davis, and Elton Roy wasn't walking through those doors again.

TxHoops: Who do you think will be Ranked #1 in 4A to start the season ???  I'm thinking Faith Family due to their returning players

Melvin Swift was pretty darn special as well.

My guess is FFA but wouldn’t be surprised if Carter was either.  They also return some nice players with size.

All I know is Joseph young, if he hits 2 or 3 corner shots in that championship game, everybody would be quoting Guy Lewis just as much or more than the late J Valvano.

Silsbee will not be better this year from last year.

But, after this year, look out!!!

Better get your licks in while you can.

I saw the team before football ended, at a thanksgiving showcase.  They didn't look too good.  I saw them again on tv stream in the playoffs.  They looked better.  That was a down year, compared to the last 4 or 5 seasons before.  Hopefully the big guy from Waxahachie Life is gone.  I know some folks in Wax that know him, but they don't follow basketball that hard.  I ran into the coach @ BT Washington the other day..  I was coming out of Esther's cajun cafe. Soul Food.  But that is another story.   He and other folks in H Town are expecting Silsbee to put it together in a year or so as well.  Time will tell.

That's good food.

Last years team was very hard to evaluate.

If you looked at the team that went to Dallas during Christmas break it had Bush, Briscoe, Cartwright, Gilder, Harper, and Baltrip on it. That group had the potential to be a contender. At the end of the year Briscoe and Cartwright were gone which greatly reduced the offensive threats. It left much of the offensive work for Bush. He was great but could not do it all.

I think the team will be better this year. They may not start off as good as last years team but I expect them to challenge everyone by the time the playoffs open. I would not surprise me if they made it to state again.

I am not sure what caused the lines but here it is clear.
