But…… The reason that I thought about this thread however, was that with all the different cultures and foods that I cook, I have never made Carne Guisada which is my favorite Mexican food. There was a thread on here quite a while back where a couple of us discussed Carne Guisada and which restaurants had a good version of it. Today I broke down and made it for the first time. There are mixes/seasoning you can buy such as Fiesta brand where you can just toss in some meat and water or broth and a certain amount of the seasoning. I think HEB has a version of it. I have heard that it is very good. I got adventurous and made it mostly from scratch. I say mostly because I didn’t make my own chili powder just like when I am making Butter Chicken I don’t make my own Garam Masala although I have seen recipes for it. The dênouement is, it turned out great. It is so stupidly easy that it makes me mad that I have not made it before. It is a lot easier than Pozole. That’s it I made Carne Guisada for the first time and I remembered the prior thread but couldn’t find it. 🤪 Carne guisada is fairly simple. Similar to gumbo, everyone makes it a little differently. It’s another signature dish similar to a pork dish I like to cook too. I’m glad you made it. It’s usually a staple for me when I cook for a larger group along with Mexican rice and beans. Quote

I bought one to fry. But then had some things come up and couldn't do it. So maybe when I fire it up at Christmas I can try it again. Quote

That is what I was talking about. Usually if a am making something for the first time, I follow a known recipe almost exactly. I might then tweak it or experiment with it later. With this CG I used about 3 different ones in a kind of mix and match and didn’t measure anything. SmashMouth 1 Quote

Thinking I may get one smoked next time. Coworker told me that JBs BBQ here in Orange smokes anything you bring em for $1/lb. I like the sound of that. But i have this jug of oil and should try to get another use considering it was $50. Most I've ever paid. "Thanks" Joe Biden Have you ever tried frying a stuffed loin? I make a good one. Pinwheel cut then stuffed with boudain dip, and wrapped in bacon. May not turn out right the 1st time. But I'm willing to risk it. Let me know what u think. Quote

I made a mistake when I tried your recipe the 1st time. When I put it in, of course, it went to the bottom to close to the fire. So my idea was to put a small grill in the bottom of the crawfish strainer and lower it down. This should be easier to keep the wrapped one together. It will also have all that batter outside of the bacon... ummmm fried bacon 🥓 Quote

Like most everyone, what to do with Turkey leftovers was a problem for us. My wife (other that grilling I’m no cook) came up with a great idea - make Turkey gumbo. If you use a Butterball, or stuff butter yourself with a syringe, it’ll give your gumbo a great, rich flavor. And gumbo is a big change, taste wise, from Thanksgiving (or Christmas) dinner. I hope y’all enjoyed this as much as I do. Quote

Put it in a pie shell, cover with another pie shell or puff pastry and bake til golden brown. Excellent leftovers meal. Hagar 1 Quote

Excellent leftovers meal. I have used a mix like Bisquick (but thinned) as a topping for a pot pie and also Pillsbury crescent rolls. Quote

That said, chicken fried wild turkey is in my top 5 favorite dishes of all time. Not sure why the flavor is so different. Quote
