Do you think that another example of good leadership in California would have been to move some of the attention given to straws to forest management?

There’s your link.

National Forest (buck stops with trump) controls, and is responsible for maintaining 57% of California forests.

Private interests (the market) owns, and is responsible for maintaining 40% of California forests.

The State of California (buck stops with Newsom) owns a whopping 3% of California forests.

Want to rethink your question?

Wonder why the other surrounding states with large tracts of forests ( and I suspect a similar division between govt, private enterprise and state) dont have near the frequency of fires that California has?

Uh, population density, maybe?  Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and Nevada have combined 16.5 million people. California has 39.8 million. Need a link?

Good leadership would have imposed some sort of restrictions on the private interests and state interests instead of allowing situation to worsen every year

Wait a minute - restrictions on private landowners? Your free market expounding self is gonna use that one? Oh, the depths to which you will descend to try and cast blame on a hated foe.

The state has direct jurisdiction over only 3% of 33,000,000 aces of forest.

No need for a link unless you have one that shows a direct corelation between population density and frequency of fires.  As for free market expounding, the state already has more regulations than any state in the union.   Figured you would think that was a great thing

Population and frequency are generally linked. Think auto accidents. Think virus spreads.
Also, the Pacific Northwest (Oregon, Washington)contains part of the world’s largest temperate rain forest. Climate is changing that, so we’ll see what the future holds.

Officials say at least 13 of the CA fires were started by downed power lines
Didn't know climate change can down power lines

I have not verified the above, but if it is true, the federal government is not likely the caretaker for any power lines.

In all honesty, the national forests aren't managed as they should be out west.  Groups like the Sierra Club file suits that are heard by left-leaning judges and stop work indefinitely, then you get nuts chaining themselves to trees and destroying equipment when you actually do get to start work.

Wildfires are nature's way of managing the forest.  When we fail to manage the forest ourselves, we end up with wildfires.

You can’t stop wildfires. All you can do is try to limit the damage. Back fires work but you are always at the mercy of the winds. Bulldozing right of ways works best but California hasn’t done much about this aspect. Like Nash said, they are more concerned with plastic straws.
