I agree with you. The Pirates did a heck of a job most of the night. I was really impressed with how they came out after halftime, too. Jasper showed me a lot after that with how they responded from being behind. I saw a lot that I liked out of both teams and they'll both get better after this.

They really need to expand on their offense though, they run it better than most but that hasn’t played out well over the last decade. Nothing run with a strong running game but a couple plays out of the spread and passes would shake things up a bit in their favor

This works for newton, and when vidor did throw the ball is was wide open.  It is a great offense when executed.  Watch Liberty Hill run this.

I agree, but they need a QB that can throw consistently to make that work. They don't have that right now.

fine example is Liberty Hill. lol @ times ii swear they have less plays than Vidor in their playbook (they really don't i am sure I just saying). what plays they run are executed very well.  

so much so, after losing to us in semi-finals one year they won it all the next two years.  

all the while having several 2000 yard in a season rbs.

Ha, you were posting about LH at the same time I was.   There are other schools that do an amazing job at this too.  We are spoiled with the wide open offenses these days.  They are great, but they aren’t the only way to win. 
 

walkoviak once told me he would have won multiple State Championships at Jasper had he ran the wishbone, and I believe him.

He told me the same thing. With all of the great backs and quarterbacks we had, that offense would have been unstoppable. We always had the defense to back that up, too. I never asked him why he chose not to go that route. Did you?

Vidor had all the momentum with the lead and a 4th down short yardage play from the Jasper 25 to start the 4th qtr. They fumbled the handoff exchange but those are the kind of mistakes we have been making at the worst times this season. Jasper took over and on the next play took it to the house to steal all the momentum. They like to line up in wildcat and spread you out with multiple receivers when all they really want to do is open up the middle of the field to run it with Limbrick. He split the safety’s and hit his head on the goalpost to take the lead. The guy had a hell of a night, he was crowned homecoming king but also had 200 yards and 2 touchdowns.

This isn’t 3A newton nor is it Liberty Hill, it’s Vidor and the record reflects its offense. JM said he didn’t run the spread because he doesn’t have the athletes everyone else does. Maybe back then that was true, but now that it’s a 4A level maybe it’s time to go to a new offense or incorporate some plays out of the spread.

Great football game last night! Had some missed opportunities but the boys played hard like always. They got to see where they were at against a solid football team. Good game Jasper. Just continue to work hard an good things will happen. I do wonder sometimes why when we’re in a short yardage situation like 3rd and 2 why we don’t do more QB sneaks because they seem to be effective when we do them an if we don’t get it then do another. JMO. Time for District. Take these 2 weeks to tighten up some things an let’s go make some noise in District!  Go Pirates!

After this tough loss to a really good Jasper team. I like the outlook on this team heading into district. The one that sticks out besides the fumbles, is the kicking game. Hopefully they'll get a handle on it with the bye this week.

My question, for obvious reasons, is how could they get taken to OT with Brazosport, but play Jasper so closely?

I disagree it is fine when you play schools that you can physically manhandle but when you play schools like jasper there has to be more to it I have watched all 3 games vidor has played this year the offense is the most predictable offense I have seen in yrs the thing that makes the slot t great is misdirection jet sweep and toss and fb dive is not misdirection I was really expecting to see more out of the playbook tonight against jasper thought they was holding out for this game but I was wrong and what they got is probably good enough to win district but not a deep playoff run but no matter what I will always bleed black and gold kids played super hard last night get healthy and go win district

Mistakes were made, we gave BP a very short field on their scoring drives. They only had 170 total yards and we racked up 400 on the ground but couldn’t finish drives. We dominated that game and almost lost, same thing at BC it shouldn’t have been that close.

All I can tell you is if a first down run gets a good 5+ yards they are going to run it again. Same play on one, break. I also wish we would have mixed up the snap count a lot more against Jasper to keep their line somewhat off balance. Towards the end their linebackers were a yard off the line and shooting through the gaps before we could even get a block on them.

I wish we would use the simple swing pass that every team uses against us. Every time we split a WR out wide it’s one on one with a corner. Put a good athlete in and just throw it out there to him, all he has to do is break one tackle. If the DB plays up throw the deep jump ball to him.

I think it would have been a good game but the way Silsbee is playing idk. Their own fans are down on them right now, talks of a rebuilding year on that OF thread.
