Guest ECBucFan Posted September 10, 2007 Report Posted September 10, 2007 I dunno, but I hope they don't fall to 2A.
dave08 Posted September 10, 2007 Report Posted September 10, 2007 i say 3-a at least they are getting smaller and smaller each year.
dav-joel Posted September 10, 2007 Report Posted September 10, 2007 From two large High Schools (5A and a 4A)to one 3a school? Wow
wos08 Posted September 10, 2007 Report Posted September 10, 2007 Our enrollment right now is like 600 or so. Whats the range for a 2A school?
Guest Luv Ya Blue Posted September 10, 2007 Report Posted September 10, 2007 420 or something like that i think.
stang4life Posted September 10, 2007 Report Posted September 10, 2007 From two large High Schools (5A and a 4A)to one 3a school? WowI believe that it is 4A and 3A (are you talking about LC-M and WO-S)
WOS87 Posted September 10, 2007 Report Posted September 10, 2007 It hasn't been as huge of a drop as it may seem on the surface... as of the beginning of this school year the High school had an enrollment of 697. This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up I believe the highest the school ever had was only a little above 1300 back in the late 1970's, early 1980's. Stark High School was always one of the smallest 4A schools back in the day and even dropped down to 3A in 1962-1963 which is when they made it all the way to the state semifinals. Back in 1962 the cutoff between 3A and 4A was 950, so Stark had to have an enrollment less than 950 at the time.Stark dropped back down to 3A from 1974-1976. West Orange High never was bigger than a small to average sized 3A school. So when the schools merged in 1977 it was a merger of two 3A schools. The cutoff to be a large classification school was only 1220. In 1985, which was WO-S' last year in 5A the 4A/5A cutoff was 1305. So the max the school ever got was probably the very first year the schools merged and it has been dropping slowly ever since, as the population of the town has dropped over the same period of time. As recently as the 2000 realignment the number was still 1010. Orange (town) population1960 25,605 Stark High enrollment 950-10001970 24,457 Stark High enrollment 1000-11001980 23,628 WO-S enrollment 1300-14001990 19,370 WO-S enrollment 1100-12002000 18,643 WO-S enrollment 10102006 17,891 WO-S enrollment 700-800
WOS87 Posted September 10, 2007 Report Posted September 10, 2007 If you think about it, the vast majority of schools in the entire area have dropped down at least one classification in the past 20-30 years and I can't think of any that have actually moved up in size without merging with another school. In 1969, there were 13 Largest Classification schools in the area divided in to two 4A districts (TJ, Lincoln, PN-G, Nederland, Silsbee, Vidor, Stark, Charlton-Pollard, Forest Park, South Park, Hebert, French and Beaumont High) The remnants of those schools are now 5A: PA Memorial (TJ + Lincoln + a 3rd smaller school SFA) 5A: West Brook (Forest Park + South Park + Hebert) 4A: Beaumont Central (French + Charlton-Pollard + Beaumont High)4A: PN-G4A: Nederland4A: Vidor3A: Silsbee3A: WO-S (Stark + a smaller West Orange)
OrangeFBfan Posted September 10, 2007 Report Posted September 10, 2007 The WOCCISD as a whole is on the up-swing as far as enrollment. Some are saying partly due to the newly instated Inspire-12 educational program. With family working in the district on several levels (Jr. High, High School etc.) the district has had an increase so far this year alone of 179 additional student’s district wide, with the vast majority of the students entering the district from the elementary level and Jr. High. Time will tell, but if this trend continues, WO-S will continue at the 3-A level or eventually move up to 4-A once again. The sky’s the limit! ;D
shorttexas1 Posted September 11, 2007 Report Posted September 11, 2007 Also, the classification count has grown... in the 60s - 70s the high class was 4A... Now 5A is here and you have big and samll school brackets. The world has grown up around little Fruit City, but those guys will be gamers in ant division!

LC-M went 3A to 4A...

The world has grown up around little Fruit City, but those guys will be gamers in ant division! There have been 5 classes from 1951 until now.... prior to 1980 there was Class B, 1A, 2A , 3A and 4AIn 1980 they got rid of Class B and essentially promoted every class up a grade. It was a change in name only as all B schools became 1A, 1A became 2A, 2A became 3A, 3A became 4A and 4A became 5A.Lumberton is definitely on the grow! 2A to 4A... LC-M went 3A to 4A...Lumberton hasn't been 2A since the 1970's. They were 4A in the 1980 realignment. LC-M hasn't actually moved up a classification since 1970 when they moved from 2A to 3A (or 3rd largest to 2nd largest classification). In 1980 3A became 4A so if you want to call that a move up okay... in actuality they have remained in the 2nd largest classification nonstop for 38 consecutive seasons.

Guest TravelingBandsman Posted September 11, 2007 Report Posted September 11, 2007 A old friend of mine is moving to Orange from Dayton, but he's zoned in the Little Cypress-Mauriceville school zone. Apparently, from talking to them, LC-M is getting most of the students of any of the growth Orange is experiencing.
dav-joel Posted September 11, 2007 Report Posted September 11, 2007 I believe that it is 4A and 3A (are you talking about LC-M and WO-S)Orange Stark was one high school in the largerst class. At the same time West Orange was second largest class. These two schools merged and became WOS. LCM is not in THIS equation.
skipper Posted September 11, 2007 Author Report Posted September 11, 2007 just rideing around last week in little cypress there are more home for sale now than we have ever seen before.the way the city of oange has zoned things now wow no telling whats going to happen and talk has it on the south side of MLK things just might be looking up in the way of new homes PS this is comming from talk at garrys coffie shop lol just talk now might happen and might not we will see
Gasilla Posted September 11, 2007 Report Posted September 11, 2007 LCM's enrollment has been on a steady decline also, just not as fast as WO-S. BC and OF are the only schools who have actually grown and very little at that.
Guest ECBucFan Posted September 11, 2007 Report Posted September 11, 2007 Lumberton hasn't been 2A since the 1970's. They were 4A in the 1980 realignment. Well, I think regardless of the time frame, Lumberton is growing if they went 2A to 4A. Hard to dispute that, if you drive through there. Massive developments underway in every direction you look. I do see your point on LC-M, though.
skipper Posted September 11, 2007 Author Report Posted September 11, 2007 yes the city of lumberton is growing very very fast and i am very pleased 4 them super school and some very nice people
Guest ECBucFan Posted September 11, 2007 Report Posted September 11, 2007 Another one exploding in growth is Mont Belvieu (Barbers Hill).
