KFDM COOP
Thompson going with Brown as QBBy Cody Pastorella The Port Arthur News First games are always hard to measure. There are butterflies to consider. When the lights come on for that first Friday night of the high school football season, Memorial head coach Ronnie Thompson says a lot of times a player’s body cannot keep up with his mind. “A receiver knows he is supposed to run a 10-yard out route, but makes his cut after five yards,†Thompson illustrated. “He’ll come over and tell me he ran the route like he was supposed to because in his mind, he did.â€Thompson said that’s just typical first week stuff. The Titans beat Ozen Saturday night in a 19-12 affair that saw 12 of their 19 points came by way of special teams and defensive plays.Memorial, which had such a potent offense last year, breaking 30 positive offensive records, couldn’t find the end zone or any rhythm in the passing game, which was good for 250 plus yards per game last year. It was a win but not an ideal start for the Titans, but Thompson said that isn’t reason to panic and they are happy to get it a W. That doesn’t mean you ignore it and hope it goes away, he addedTo start the season, Thompson’s plan was to use both senior Harry Brown and junior Jareal Alexander at quarterback. After a quick assessment of week one, Thompson has decided to go with Brown as his starting quarterback. He said Alexander will get some time in at quarterback in certain situations, but for now the Titans will use Alexander as a running back and receiver. “We need him (Alexander) on the field. Both of these guys need to be on the field at the same time and this is a simple solution,†Thompson said. “We had a lot of struggles in that first game. It wasn’t just at quarterback. We missed some open receivers but there were plenty of mistakes to go around.“There was always one thing that went wrong that led to another thing. It started with a missed block and then a missed read and so on. It was a like a domino effect.â€Thompson said Ozen, which picked off one pass and held the Titans to just 125 yards through the air, got better between their first and second games. “You have to credit them. They have a very good secondary and were a better football team from what they were in their first game,†Thompson said. “Teams will usually improve the most between their first and second games. It’s a matter of finding rhythm and getting used to playing with one another.“You can practice for months but until you get in a real game, you don’t know what to expect.â€Brown said he may have been given the job but nothing is concrete. SFA85
The offense moves better with Brown. It's supposed to be the Spread and Brown throws better....
akifan94
SFA...I read where ya'll have a young LB (Eric Hines) that is going to be a moster. Apparentley he has caught the attention of some of the Texas folks already.
BMTSoulja1
I agree with the decision. Brown dont'have the wheel that the other QB has but he does have wheels. I saw a whole lot of tackles he evaded vs Ozen.

akifan94
I read Hines was 6'2" 205 and benched 295 as a freshman. They are real high on him and they also mentioned a DE (Scypion).
