Guest ECBucFan Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 Like the guy that runs Hadleys Furniture in Beaumont said on TV after the hurricaine: "The goons come out" when an opportunity is there.....Hadleys glass windows were kicked in and his furniture was stolen. > This is a sick, sad world we live in. :'(

Guest Techsan Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 Copper is in high demand right now, and we have had a couple of instances in Lubbock where copper has been reported stolen from various businesses in the warehouse district but this is just unreal.
BMTSoulja1 Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 Yea, I know. But from a freaking high school stadium? Come on now. Guys used to steal fiber-optic wire from construction sites.
Guest ECBucFan Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 Did that happen after Humberto? I hope they catch the little . . . !! >Yes. It happened during the time the buisnesses were closed. >
82 5A State Champs Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 As an electrician, the last time I sold scrap copper, I got about $2.75 a pound for it. We're talking about several hundred pounds of feeder wire for those stadium lights.....you do the math. It really shouldn't be suprising, as we've had several thefts like that in our area over recent months. It is what it is! :-[
tvc184 Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 Theft of copper is becoming an epidemic due to the cost of copper scrap. People are actually cutting the coils out of air conditioners while they are running in people's homes and in businesses.Due to the recent surge in thefts, a new Texas law on September 1st makes it a felony to steal any amount of copper, bronze or aluminum wire. If a person gets caught stealing a one foot piece of copper wire worth about 25 cents, it can cost him up to two years in jail.
