UNLV Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 Think long and hard about which level of football will gather the most support from the community....A few example of a typical schedule LU will play as I-A and I-AA.Think about what schedule you would enjoy more.Sam Houston schedule...I-AA2007 Schedule DATE OPPONENT RESULT/TIME 08/30 Angelo St W 17-13 09/08 Ark Mont W 48-10 09/15 at ND State L 41-38 09/29 at Oklahoma St 7:05 PM 10/06 C Arkansas TBD 10/13 at McNeese St 8:00 PM 10/20 N'west St 3:00 PM 10/27 at S F Austin 3:00 PM 11/03 Nicholls St 7:00 PM 11/10 at SE Louisiana 7:00 PM 11/17 at Texas State 7:00 PM Just 2 years ago former SLC member UL-Monroe I-A2007 Schedule DATE OPPONENT RESULT/TIME 08/30 Tulsa L 35-17 09/08 at #25 Clemson L 49-26 09/15 at #25 Texas A&M L 54-14 09/29 at Troy 7:00 PM 10/06 Arkansas St 7:00 PM 10/13 at N Texas 7:00 PM 10/20 Fla Int'l 7:00 PM 10/27 at FAU 4:00 PM 11/03 M Tenn St 7:00 PM 11/10 Gram St 5:00 PM 11/17 at #16 Alabama TBD 11/24 at La Lafayette 7:00 PM Former LU rival...La Tech I-A2007 Schedule DATE OPPONENT RESULT/TIME 09/01 C Arkansas W 28-7 09/08 #20 Hawaii L 45-44 09/15 at #8 California L 42-12 09/29 at Fresno St 10:00 PM 10/06 at Ole Miss TBD 10/13 New Mexico St 7:00 PM 10/20 Boise St 7:00 PM 10/27 at Utah St 3:05 PM 11/03 at Idaho 5:00 PM 11/10 at #2 LSU 8:00 PM 11/17 San Jose St 7:00 PM 12/01 at Nevada 4:05 PM Current SLC member SFA I-AA2007 Schedule DATE OPPONENT RESULT/TIME 09/01 Tarleton St L 27-24 09/08 at ND State L 28-19 09/22 W Illinois 7:00 PM 09/29 at S Dakota St 3:00 PM 10/06 at SE Louisiana 7:00 PM 10/13 Nicholls St 7:00 PM 10/20 at Texas State 7:00 PM 10/27 Sam Houston 3:00 PM 11/03 McNeese St 7:00 PM 11/10 at C Arkansas 7:00 PM 11/17 at N'west St 3:00 PM Which would you like to see?
KFDM COOP Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 Man i'm just ready for any level. Good analysis you put together though.
UNLV Posted September 18, 2007 Author Report Posted September 18, 2007 I'm ready too. However if LU stays at the I-AA level, it will not excite this area long term. LU needs to decide between 5k-6k attendance at the I-AA level long term, or 30k-40k attendance at the I-A level.
Guest coachacola Posted September 18, 2007 Report Posted September 18, 2007 I think long term Lamar is looking to go 1-A. There's no money to be made in 1-AA. But Lamar has to start in 1-AA and in the SLC, hope they can draw big crowds, start winning real soon, and build up all aspects of the athletic department. Then hopefully in 5-10 years they will get an invite to a 1-A conference. If they do go 1-A, they'll need this:

In 5-10 years everyone will be settled into their new conference with no room to expand. The norm will be 12 team conferences at the beginning. No one will be looking for a 13th team. This is why UTSA is rushing to I-A.
Guest coachacola Posted September 18, 2007 Report Posted September 18, 2007 Nobody knows when the breakup will happen, but probably will start after the 4 year moratorium ends. I'm hoping Lamar is ready to move to 1-A in 5 years, not 10 years, but you never know how things will work out.

I think the moratoruim was put in place for the breakup. Think about it. What is it purpose? Why now? Maybe so some teams can protect their standings or keep themselves from being left out.
Guest abovetherim Posted September 25, 2007 Report Posted September 25, 2007 You guys really get me pumped about football at Lamar. I just bought the movie "We are Marshall". I'm not sure a lot of people know, Marshall was the worst football program in the decade of the 70's. Well, they aren't too bad now and during to late 80's and the 90's they were real good. I remember seeing Marshall beat McNeese in Lake Charles in the DI-AA now (FCS) playoffs.
Guest Ozen Posted September 25, 2007 Report Posted September 25, 2007 No joke. Raedy for some local College ball.
Guest coachacola Posted September 25, 2007 Report Posted September 25, 2007 I'm ready for some Lamar football too!!!
UNLV Posted September 25, 2007 Author Report Posted September 25, 2007 Billy Tubbs, all eyes are on you.
UNLV Posted September 26, 2007 Author Report Posted September 26, 2007 I wonder if AD Tubbs is trying not to piss-off the SLC like UTSA being doing the last 2 years. If LU is planning I-A, it's gonna eventually happen.
Guest abovetherim Posted September 26, 2007 Report Posted September 26, 2007 All I know is if anyone with money had the vision UNLV and Coachacola has Lamar would be playing football soon!!! Those guys pump me up and I'm at about 36 hrs without sleep
