Sarah Armand finished with six kills for the Lady Cardinals. The Lady Longhorns now stand 3-2 in the district standings, a full two games behind the Lady Cardinals who are alone at the top.Hamshire-Fannett was led by Kayla Dotson’s seven kills while Kindra Wright put in six. Danielle Johnson led the Lady Longhorns with 17 assists.“They actually came out and won in three,†Bridge City Coach Becca Mathews said. “We really couldn’t get into a groove and finally in the third game we had some energy.â€The second game really proved the Lady Cardinals fight as the Lady Longhorns opened up a 12-5 lead. From then on it was downhill for Hamshire-Fannett and the Bridge City was in the driver’s seat. The Lady Cardinals fought back and took their first lead since it was 1-0 when Lauren Angelle came up with a big play.Lauren Angelle dove for the ball and popped it up into the air. The ball found just enough space on the Lady Longhorns’ side giving Bridge City a 16-15 lead.Hamshire-Fannett did tie the game at 16 on the next play but it was the last time the game was tied.Fullerton hit for four straight service points, which included an ace, and Bridge City took a 21-16 lead.Bridge City’s Mallory Guidry, who finished with nine digs, ended the second game with an ace capping the comeback win at 25-17.“This feels very good,†Kosh said. “We were so excited for this match and it feels even better to get the win in three.â€Once the Lady Cardinals got the comeback win in Game 2 the Lady Longhorns were never really the same.Bridge City had no problems get past Hamshire-Fannett in Game 3 as Kosh went to serve with a 2-1 win.Kosh hit for five straight points including two aces. The Lady Longhorns did tie the game up at nine and the Lady Cardinals quickly responded.Guidry hit for two straight service points and Lauren Angelle’s three straight basically put the game on ice.Fullerton took serve with the Lady Cardinals up 23-15 and a Hamshire-Fannett shot went out of bounce.Fullerton then ended the match with a jump-serve ace giving Bridge City the 25-15 victory.Bridge City controlled the first game even with Hamshire-Fannett hanging around. The Lady Cardinals took a late 19-13 lead only to see the Lady Longhorns fight back and tie things up at 21.It was fitting to see Kosh set Myers up twice in a row to finish off the game as Bridge City won 26-24.“Our goal is to remain undefeated and win the district championship,†Kosh said. “That is what we are hoping. We definitely can do it. Everyone on this team is awesome.â€Mathews agreed with everything her sophomore setter said.“Hamshire-Fannett is a good team,†Mathews added. “It makes it even more awesome when you beat a good team when you don’t play your best. When we were down seven in the second and still won, that says a lot.â€The Lady Cardinals return to action Tuesday when they travel to face their rival Orangefield Lady Bobcats.
East TX Posted September 24, 2007 Report Posted September 24, 2007 Looked to me like good discipline by the BC team was the deciding factor in every game. Several girls had to step up to adequately cover for their ailing Senior Spiker ace. The Pender girl was a bright spot for H-F; good consistent digs.
