BEAUMONT - The Lamar Cardinals bolstered their front court with the additions of Jay Brown and Tristan Worrell to close out the 2007-08 recruiting class, announced second-year Lamar University coach Steve Roccaforte. Brown is a 6-7, 230-pound forward from L.A. City College. As a sophomore this past season, he averaged 17.4 points, 11.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game. He shot 54.4 percent from the field and blocked 35 shots. He was named first-team all-state and named Co-MVP of the South Coast Conference. A native of Griffin, Ga., Brown helped L.A. City win its 14th straight conference championship. He played his freshman season at Georgia Perimeter College, where he averaged 8.8 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 2.5 apg and 1.2 spg. He shot 52.3 percent from the field. Brown was a prep standout at Griffin HS where he averaged 24 ppg, 9 rpg, 4 apg and 2 bpg as a senior. He was an all-state selection and a McDonald's All-America nominee. Worrell, a 6-7, 250-pound forward from Angelina College, averaged 10.8 ppg, 4.8 rpg and 1.7 apg this past season as a sophomore. He shot 65.4 percent from the field, which ranked second in the conference. As a freshman, he averaged 7.8 ppg and 4 rpg, and shot 64.4 percent from the field. A Houston native, Worrell prepped at Fort Bend Bush HS where he averaged 17 ppg, 11 rpg and 5 apg as a senior. He was a three-time first-team all-district selection and was a McDonald's All-America nominee.
