Update from UIL regarding COVID for state title games

 If one or both teams can't play in a football state title game due to COVID, teams will be allowed to reschedule games at a site determined by both teams. These games must be completed by Jan. 16 (1A thru 4A) and Feb. 13 (5A & 6A).

And for those wondering about playoff games prior to state title game, any team that has to shut down due to COVID will have to forfeit their game. There will be no rescheduling. There has already been 7 Bi-District playoff games that resulted in forfeits due to COVID.

says if a football team wins a playoff game and can't play next round because of COVID, its next opponent gets a bye instead of having losing team advance. That goes through state semifinals. TBD on what happens if state finalist can't play.

Make that 8 Bi-District playoff games forfeited due to COVID.

Gatesville has forfeited to Carthage.

Some team that would be a threat is going to have to forfeit because as you know High School kids party.

That's unfortunate, especially for the seniors. They weren't going to win that game, but that's a tough way for those kids to go out.

Riviera Kaufer did not belong in the playoffs (zero wins on the Season)and have been replaced on the UIL bracket by Santa Maria who is 1-0 by forfeit this season.   Refugio would have killed them might as well count that as a Mercy Killing than a Covid Killing

I made the comment on another forum that I would keep my JV and varsity separate and if the varsity gets covid to play the JV in the playoff game.

Not that I would expect my JV to win but it allows the underclassmen to gain valuable experience.

Funny how a lot of #4 seeds got the Rona. I guess the Rona doesn’t affect # 1 and 2 seeds. Lol

Just an observation. 6 of the 8 teams receiving forfeits are State ranked. 3 of them are ranked #1 in the State.

You beat me to it, I fully expected this to happen. Amazing how the #4's get "sick" so easily when none of the #1's did, LOL. Great way to 1) gather sympathy / victim status, and 2) avoid an embarrassing beat down in the first round. Slick!
