From AD/HC Chris Babin:

Sixteen months ago, my wife and I made the challenging decision to move our son to Houston in order to allow him to pursue his gifts and passion for dance. We made this decision for our son, putting aside my personal needs while prioritizing our son’s future. My son is flourishing; however, as a devoted father and husband, I must reunite with my family. With this being said, I have resigned from my position as Athletic Director and Head Football Coach at Lumberton ISD. I step aside at this early point in the school year to give LISD the opportunity to find a new leader of the Raider Athletic Program. I do not resign under any pressure; this decision was mine alone. Dr. Tipton has served as a great mentor and means of support through this challenging year. I write this letter to the community of Lumberton to issue a sincere “Thank you”. I became a resident of Lumberton at the age of ten. As a Raider athlete, I played in 55 football games, ran in 40 track meets, and lifted in 27 powerlifting meets. As an employee at Lumberton, I coached in nearly 300 football games, 100 softball games, 60 powerlifting meets, and 60 track meets. When I became the leader of the Raider Athletic Program in 2015, my ultimate goal was to create an overall athletic program that the Lumberton community could be proud of. With a focus on character, class, work ethic, and toughness, I approached every day of my tenure here with intensity and passion. I can proudly state that my time as the athletic director in Lumberton has forged countless positive relationships with athletes, parents, and community members; I value these relationships most of all. I depart this district grateful for the opportunity to have impacted your son or daughter. Raider colors will always run through my veins. Thank you for the opportunity to be a part of your lives. -Chris Babin

I dream of waking up and seeing a similar  thread but with another coach.

I always marvel at those who wish a coach who has built a program to be much more than it was before he got there to leave. It is like they have memory loss of what the program was before.

This is not directed solely at you, Pho because there are many who seem to follow that path.

Takes talent and a little luck along the way...

I remember where the program was before he got there. It was in 22-5A with Central, West Brook, laPorte, Deer Park, Sterling & Lee, all teams that were twice as big. His first year we dropped down to 4A and he inherited a dang good group of athletes. The previous coach cared about nothing except smoking cigarettes and I'm not even joking. It's not like he came in facing the same circumstances as the previous coaches . No one ever considers those factors.

Huh?  Anyone want to translate please?

Yeah, truth is the new tacky these days and people like you try to shame the truth speakers  . I gave up on him  leaving years ago. Just because you are a good politician does not make you a good coach, just look at the record. he is better suited for Mayor and I'm being dead serious.

But they almost beat Lindale last night!?!?

Nothing but class from Coach Babin. Respect his decision but respect him more as a man, father and husband. Good luck wherever you land Coach Babin.

Didn't help he also lost his to freshman super stars to Silsbee eather.! The Ard" brothers where really going to be something special for Lumberton something they really haven't had in years. They will be a big impact for Silsbee next year.!

You pegged it. That’s why he quit. 2 freshman. 😳

Much respect for this move. Just out of curiousity since this is a reason you don't hear often ... what sort of dancing does his son do?

Coach Babin’s son, Hayden, trains 6-7 days a week. He has trained at Houston Ballet Academy for three years and also competes independently for a few Houston area studios. He dances all over Texas and even gone to Los Angeles for an invite-only dance convention. He has thousands of followers on TikTok and Instagram. He is a gifted kid. His videos online are impressive.

So I'm out in the yard weed eating and I start thinking to myself and after a little self reflection and beer I realized that I  shouldn't give the man such a hard time. I mean, who am I to judge his work when I don't know all the circumstances behind the outcome of his work ? I am no one other than another Monday morning QB that complains and has all the answers to others problems. I apologize to Mr. Mathews. Even if I disagree with the things he does , it doesn't mean I should publicly bash him. I haven't read any replies to my original post so no one has persuaded me to write this, I felt that it was the right thing to do.

Now that’s some class. Respect

Won’t be the only transfers Silsbee will get 😉

This news sucks! Coach Babin was a great coach and a better man. He did a lot of little things to keep the kids involved in the community and groom them into good young men. When I graduated high school I didn’t follow football at all anymore (mainly cause Lumberton sucked lol) but as soon as I heard the news of Babin being back I started going to games. And now I’m a High school football fanatic like the rest of you crazy people on here. I’ve followed Lumberton, Silsbee in the playoffs, seen WOS play in the state championship 3 times along with Newton. A love for high school football all started with simply hearing about a coach I loved playing for being back. While I saw this coming from several conversations I’ve had with him in the past, it still sucks. As a raider fan and former player I know what we are losing. My only hopes going forward are that we can make a good hire, and even more importantly that Coach Babin can land a good coaching spot near his son. Best believe I’ll still be keeping up with him!!

oh, and Lumberton, please don’t screw this choice up and end up 0-10 like the old days!

I think y’all have good shot at getting a good coach. Y’all have nice facilities  and the  bond just passed. Just have to pay them to come

Good lawd son! I’m waiting for the follow up that starts off with “Psyche!”.
I had the same epiphany 3 years ago. I only talk bad about posters now... Cuz it’s fun! 🤩
