What's Your Definition of "Heart"?

You hear it all the time. A player has heart. A team has heart. It's really kind of hard to describe what "heart" is. I think it's raw emotion that supercedes talents and abilites. Even individuals or teams with little comparitive talent can have "heart". What do ya'll think?

That is a pretty good definition of "heart". Heart is a 5ft, 90lb kid in at nose and he never quits and keeps making it through. And it can also mean being able to use those God given talents.

Great example!

Another word for "heart" is "overachiever"

Success is not the focal point to me. You take that same 5FT., 90lb kid at nose and he plays against a big, quick oline and is hammered all night long. It takes "heart" to keep getting up and going all out unitl the last play of the game. Heart can be beaten, but not defeated!

"Heart" to me is the never give up attitude.  You can lose and still have heart. Heart is walking off the field knowing you left nothing there.  And for those of us watching win or lose it's obvious when you see it.

Heart is....

Being a senior on the varsity squad and your only involvement is being on the scout team in practice.  Although you never play, you take pride in practicing the best you can to make the TEAM better.  When asked to play in a game, you give 110% every time.  Very few schools have six or more of these players.  When I was in school, these players took pride in being a letterman on the "scout team".

Heart is....

Being in the 4th quarter, losing by 5 touchdowns, but still giving everything you got on every play.

Heart is....

Playing for a greater cause than the team winning the game.  The "greater cause" is the building block of "tradition".  You are playing for the community and to carry on the tradition that the players that played when you were in elementary help build.  The players realize that they are being "idolized" by the elementary kids in their district and are playing the game for them.

Your school district has this tradition when you see some 3rd or 4th graders playing street football.  Instead of wanting to be a star NFL or college player, they are wanting to be the players on their varsity football team.  Very few school districts can say this.  IT ALL STARTS WITH HEART!!!

The words on the PN-G press box say it all...

Heart is...

HONOR, PRIDE, TRADITION

Heart is a fulfillment of one's potential. You can't be better than you are, but you can be your best regardless of the circumstances. The thing is that people don't realize their full potential so they sell themselves short by not giving their all. ??? ??? ???
