KFDM COOP Posted January 21, 2006 Report Posted January 21, 2006 PAISD posts athletic director job It turned out a special meeting wasn't needed to get Port Arthur Memorial's vacant athletic director-head football coach position officially on the job market. School district officials posted the job on the Texas Association of School Administrators web site without waiting for the school board to officially accept former AD Dean Colbert's two week-old resignation. Superintendent Willis Mackey said earlier this week the district could not advertise the opening or accept applications until the board accepted the resignation at its next scheduled meeting, Jan. 26. Some trustees voiced concern that by waiting, the district might be missing out on some good candidates and talked of calling an emergency meeting just to accept the resignation. “I requested a special meeting with Dr. Mackey (superintendent Willis Mackey) at noon today to accept Colbert's resignation,†board president Julia Samuels said Friday afternoon. “We did not have the meeting, because we were directed by the conservator (Texas Education Agency conservator Stephanie Cravens) to direct Dr. Mackey to go ahead and post the job. She said we could do it now and wait until our regular meeting to formally accept the resignation.†The job qualifications, according to the TASA listing, would seem to diminish the chances of a pair of hometown candidates who have let it be known they planned to apply: interim AD Shane Sinegal and Memorial offensive coordinator Kenny Harrison. The listing says “master's degree from an accredited college or university preferred, along with a valid Texas teaching certificate. Neither have a master's degree. It also calls for five years successful teaching and coaching experience. The salary range is listed at $50,818 to $72,455. Colbert was being paid an annual salary of $76,875.
