24 over par Posted September 25, 2007 Report Posted September 25, 2007 how often do home town refs actually call home town games
warfan Posted September 25, 2007 Report Posted September 25, 2007 Way more than they should! Don't have a problem with this for Jr High or sub-varsity games because of the numbers. But I wish the chapter would prohibit local folks calling local games.
24 over par Posted September 25, 2007 Author Report Posted September 25, 2007 i dont know how games are assignned but home town guys shouldnt call home town games at home or on the road. i know there is a shortage of officals but this is not good
Guest Pirate V Ball Posted September 25, 2007 Report Posted September 25, 2007 It Happens. Ask Nederland.
24 over par Posted September 25, 2007 Author Report Posted September 25, 2007 officals out here give your thoughts
Guest maverick24 Posted September 25, 2007 Report Posted September 25, 2007 Ref's are assigned games that they dont have a personal conflict with unless there is no one else to do a game that they may have ties too.
Guest ndn09 Posted September 25, 2007 Report Posted September 25, 2007 Yep a whole lot more than they should now these days.
dav-joel Posted September 25, 2007 Report Posted September 25, 2007 Yep a whole lot more than they should now these days. What ??????????????????????????????????????
teeboan Posted September 27, 2007 Report Posted September 27, 2007 You're all clueless. We (board memebers of the chapter) meet with every area caoch early in August and the COACHES pick us. They start with the last week of the season and work their way to week 0. The 2 schools playing that week sit together and decide which crew they want. We send each head coach a photo album before the end of school with each crew's pictures, names, home address, years of experience and any conflicts. Get some facts before you form an opinion.
77 Posted September 27, 2007 Report Posted September 27, 2007 Know that refs have swapped crews for games.
teeboan Posted September 27, 2007 Report Posted September 27, 2007 if you mean sometimes an official may work on different crews you are correct. This week our L.J. can't work. We picked up another off a crew that doesn't have a game this week. We call both coaches with the replacement to see if they approve.
warfan Posted September 27, 2007 Report Posted September 27, 2007 Probably not the issue in football that it is in basketball because of the numbers. It seems there are more folks willing to call football games.
Bucster Posted September 27, 2007 Report Posted September 27, 2007 For whatever it's worth, I have put 4 kids through Varsity athletics (been raisin' kids for 27 years) and I have seen a lot of referees in that time. In my experience, home town referees tend to favor the visiting team more than the home team. Most referees are good, honest (albeit sometimes visually challenged ) people and sometimes show a bias toward the visitors to avoid any appearance of impropriety. I don't believe they do it intentionally, it just happens.
